Hello everyone, I'm a newbe on this forum, but I'm glad to be here. This site came highly recommended by members of other Kawasaki forums that I belong to. I have a tech. question that I'm hoping one of you could shed some light on. I recently bought a 86' ZL600 as a project bike, has not been running in a couple of years etc. The previous owner said it had starter problems. I bench tested it and it turns out the starter is OK, the starter clutch is bad. It makes a hellacious sound when trying to start. I have heard of people replacing the starter clutch on certain Kawi bikes from underneath once the oilpan is removed. Has anyone done it this way on a similar year ZL600 or Ninja 600R. Any info. about this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance Jim

Welcome Jim!
Wish I could help but I have never tore into a zl600! If I get a chance tonight I'll look at the manual...Did you get the manual from us yet?

Enjoy the site!

I see you own a zl1000??? NICE!

Hey, we aren't much for reading here,,,so where's the pics! :laughing7:

I was attempting to do the same thing with a busted up 900 motor I have - just to see if it could be done. But I couldn't get all of the motor apart without a torch - froze up bad - and I don't have a torch. Then other things came up and I have yet to get back to that experiment yet. It looks like it can be done - barely - it's a very tight fit down in there. Let us know if you find anything out. Later.
