I'm going to start a thread titled "Blag's Photos - Ireland".
Every time I go for a ride, I always make sure to bring my camera with me. Instead of stopping for a smoke (like in the good ol days when i had the habit), I now look out for photo opportunities and stop to take a few shots... (Gives my butt a break from the saddle too)
I'm going to just keep adding to this thread every time I feel like. (and if you guys get sick of photos of my ZL and the Irish countryside, you can choose to ignore this thread...:icon_salut:)
I encourage any of you other guys n gals who like to take photos, to do the same.... create your own thread with the title (example - "Joe Bloggs photos... Norway") and start posting!! If theres enough interest, maybe we can ask Mark to create dedicated area for these threads, seperate to the gallery photos? (pashnit style :D)
I really enjoy seeing the photos of your bikes and countries when you post them! I'd like to see more!!!
Anyway, enough of that,
Here we go...
I went out for a few hours yesterday :- :HappyFacePutt5K:

The cliffs of Moher were a real big let down for me when I went there some years ago. A big parking lot, a tourist shop and some cliffs.... From the top, you can walk up to the edge of the cliffs and peer over which is the best bit, really scary. They get a few suicide jumpers there every year. Still the cliffs are worth a look in if you are passing, but I would not have them in my top 10. If u like natural wonders, the Giants causeway, in County Antrim, is one to catch.
I went to the cliffs of Moher one time with a boat, got to see the cliffs from the gound up, now that was impressive. I learned to water ski not 5 miles from that spot.
The area the cliffs are in is really cool, called "the burren". Some cool rides up there. Really popular with bikers.
I wish there was some better scenery around here. That looks like a great area to be out riding in.

Can you get some pics of a field just spread with liquid manure? If you could find a way to post the smell, it would be aromatic! That is about the extent of our scenery too.
I liked the last picture of the curvy road. Don't quite understand why they didn't just build the road straight, through the middle of the picture, but then it wouldn't have been any fun to ride on. Is that like an open range, or just not used for anything? Some of the other pics look like small fields, but that last one is different. Looks pretty rocky, the old timers would say "It was so rocky you could drive a six horse team across 40 acres, and never touch the ground"

Nah, Ireland is a small island. Never more than 30-40 miles from a fuel station. But it is a pain in the butt keeping a constant eye on the fuel level. Having said that, my little SatNav has saved me from trouble quite a few times, "Nearest fuel station" is my favourite button!!

The original road was built in 1847. As with most twisty roads in ireland, they were routed with laiden donkeys and carts in mind. These roads were carved into that particular valley long before they were paved.
The whole range is owned by various sheep farmers. Their land divided by dry stone walls or wooden posts and wire. I really enjoy the experience of riding these roads. The smell of peat, furze bushes, and 1001 other incredible smells and views.
Photo taken at the pass overlooking the twisty road...

A guy down the rode has 800 hogs, all in confinement.I realy try not to go by his place. Most of the time they knife in the crap, but in the winter he drives down the rode and shoots it over the ditch out into the feild.Nasty,Nasty stuff,I can't even discribe the smell, nothing like cows or horess.
I hope they dont do that in Ireland.

3 days in the West of Ireland... Galway, Connemara. 2 days of incessant rain, hailstone, very low cloud cover & 50mph cross winds. Couldn't have been much worse. But at least one of the days was dry enough to get a decent ride in... (ignoring the few showers and drizzle) :rolleyes2:

That area I rode in is well known here for the stone walls. Everywhere you look, there are dry stacked stone walls. I guess over the decades, the farmers would work the land and pick the stones from the fields. Why not build walls with them?
Skinny roads? I'm assuming you're talking about the single lane "boreens" (narrow roads). These are my favourite, if I am travelling alone, I'll often turn off a main road and ride along some of these boreens to see what I'll find, some times I uncover an incredible vista or just a really nice scene to enjoy as I ride along. Sometimes I run to a dead end/farmers gate surrounded by sheep. Thats the fun of it.
The Suzuki is a pig of a bike to use on the boreens. The fat 250 rear tyre makes for interesting handling and the suspension is more suited to smooth paved roads anyway. The ZL is my first choice bike for this kind of touring around.
This weekend, weather permitting, I'm going over to "The ring of Kerry" and I am looking forward to taking the ZL on that one.

Weather was good so I went for a spin around a part of the "ring of Kerry"... I left home with plans to driving around the full Kerry peninsula, but I changed my mind after talking with an old biker guy at a fuel station. When I told him I was planning on "doin' the ring", he suggested an alternative route, through an area called "the black valley". I gotta admit, He let me in on a really nice route... Not more than 200 miles ride today, but it took 8 hours to complete!!

We as a nation........ have been dealing with a relatively unknown phenomenon over the last few days. The ground is dry, the sky has blue stuff in it, and theres a warm yellow roundy thing stays up in the sky from early morning to late evening... I'm sure our best scientists will eventually figure out what is going on, but in the mean time, me and a couple of guys I ride with, are braving it out, and going for a ride on our motorbikes.
