View Full Version : Pods, what kind to get?

I know there is a lot of talk on here wither or not to use pods or not.

We have a beater Eli, and are sending the carbs off today to get them cleaned and synced by Rick. We've went ahead and told Rick that we will put pods on the bike, we like the look of them and the bigger jets that go with them but above all putting the carbs back in with a stock airbox looks awful.

The decision is made! We are pro-pods!

That said, remember that this is a BEATER eliminator, she'll never be pretty, just rideable.

I heard talk of some cheaper pods that aren't washable but are cheap, like around $45 shipped, who makes these and where can we get them?

I read ALL the threads about them and all the links are dead and the names of them are not current, where do we get these bad boys!?

There is a company called something like EMGO (?) that makes pods that don't cost as much as KN's.

If you send me a reminder tomorrow morning I can take a pic of the emgo and k-n pods side by side for you to compare.

I actually have a set of carbs sitting idle for my 900 and I was kicking around the idea of fitting them with pods and sliding them onto the bike to play around...Since I know have the ZL1, I can have a bike to play around with while still having an ass kicking bike to ride...

I still think my 900 would run better with pods and more air, but the cold start thing has me concerned...Right now I can go out in 25 degree weather and she will fire right up (air box)

No such thing, just a matter of time to get her back into prime shape.

I am interested to hear from the POD guys.....How does your bike start with the POD's when it is 40 degrees or below...When I had POD's on my 900 before, it was hard starting at around 60 or below, under 50 and it MIGHT start...see 40 degrees, you might as well forget it...When I switched to the airbox, it will start like a dream even at 25 degrees...I played around with jetting and everything with the airbox, but right now I am running with the snorkel off (just open hole at rear of airbox) and the bike seems to run good...It still feels like it is rich at idle and loading up, but if I lean the mix screws out, it is harder starting...

Back when I had it running, it would start up whenever I wanted it to. If it was cold it needed the choke on, but never had any issues firing it up.. even when I was scraping frost off the seat.

Same here, running pods - no problems starting cold as long as choke is used. Let it sit out in 35 degree weather for 8 hours - like at work - and it takes an extra crank or two to fire up but never gave me any real fits. This is all with 132 mains. I just went up to the 136's so I don't know how it will do. Later.

Mine fires right off with the pods on. Just have to use the choke.
The only real difference between pods and no pods I have encountered with cold starts is it seems that i have to start using the choke earlyer in the season when running pods. Cant give a factual on that it just seems that it will start without the choke on a cooler day but the same temps with pods needs the choke.
Years ago with my first zl I rode for two years threw the winter and never had any starting issues with pods even on days I had to clean the snow and Ice off the bike before starting. (boy am I glad I dont have to ride in that freezing cold any more)

One thing to consider willy is your carbs were not all straightend out quite right at that point in time.

That's kinda what I was thinking...I still believe that I am running a little rich with the airbox...No matter what I do with the carb adj. it seems that way...The bike fires up awesome...runs great with airbox...just figured I could kinda toy around now that I have two bikes and not get so stressed about messing with it and not being able to ride...I can now do both...

So those pods that Rick just showed that are not K&N do not have to be oiled?...I really like the look of those
