:pistols: I HAVE TWO CONNECTIONS UNDER THE TANK ON THE RIGHT SIDE (THAT APPEAR TO BE VACCUM CONNECTIONS) THAT ARE OFF/MISSING AND I DO NOT HAVE A MANUAL YET CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A DETAILED ANSWER AS TO WHERE THEY GO TO... AS THEY ARE CAPPED OFF RIGHT NOW (BY ME) TO KEEP GAS FROM LEAKING ALL OVER THE PLACE, AND BY DOING SO, THE BIKE RUNS ROUGH AT 75 MPH OR SO.

THANKS,
JOSH

I hooked up a vaccum line that was going between the #2 and #4 carbs via the "t" connector, and by doing so it completely flooded the carbs and bike wouldnt run so i have eliminated that possibility.

sounds to me that you have the califonia model zl, or at least the tank off one !!! those vacume ports go to the emissions crap. my dad & i have a california model, which we eliminated the emissions canister, & left the lines unhooked. it runs like new ! CHRIS

Seated on the bike (to determine left and right)the right side at the rear should have a black rubber line connected to a metal pipe, the black line runs back...that is your tank vent....On the left side at the fuel petcock, you will have two lines..One is slightly larger...the slightly larger one is the fuel line, it should run down to the "T" fitting between #2 and #3 carb. That feeds fuel into the carbs....The other line at the fuel petcock will be a vacuum line and the will go to one of your carbs towards the front (I think factory position is #2 carb, but it really doesn't matter....That line is what applies vacuum to the petcock to turn it on and flow fuel)...If the petcock is functioning correctly and it is on "ON" or RES", then fuel should not flow out untill the vacuum is present there...Putting the petcock on "PRI" will allow flow all the time....

Willy well said Willy ! after posting i went out & double checked dad's bike & he does have one line hooked up, but the other vacume port is left alone. i think he looked at another zl ( not california model ) & set it up that way. i know Eleanor only has one vacume port on right side, dad's has 2, & i rember pulling off the emissions crap.

When I first got my 900 I pulled it apart to send Rick my carbs...I had a morphodite set up under there with lines attached, some capped and some just open....When I first looked at it, I figured it was some sort of emission thing and It did not look like it was a factor in performance (more of a hinderance)...I ended up pulling the valve out and chucking it...I also capped the "T" to the large piping going to the valve cover reed valves. Now I have a pingel tap so all 4 carbs just have plugs on the ports...

He could very well have a ruptured diaphram in the petcock and might be sucking gas right into the vacuum line at the petcock...The thing that confused me is he said right side of the tank and the only thing that should be hooked up on the right side is the vent hose as the petcock is on the left side...unless it is that air valve abortion...
