GAZL900

OK Guys,
Here is the deal, alot of the members have contacted me about these Case Guards, I am thinking of making a few sets if I can get at least a quanty of 5, They are made from DOM 1" .120 wall tubing and will be ready for Painting or Plateing. (These have not been manufactured yet, I am trying to find out if there is enough interest before I build). Two to three weeks lead time, Payment required before I will manufacture.

Do to the extreme cost of materials now and the cost of Coating these, I offer them to you "AS IS" meaning You are responsible for Getting your set Coated or Plated.

These will be First come , First Served and I don't know when I might make another run.

Get them while you can, Price is $92.50 , this will include shipping to the Lower 48 States, Except for Calafornia, Arizona, (Add $7.50 if you live in one of these two states.

These will fit ZL900's and ZL1000's They require alot of patiance when installing because they fit like a glove, You might also have to buy a couple of bolts for fitment.

A few of the Guys aready have them on the bikes including ZLMark and others.
Thanks, Steve Paypal payment will go to SCahoe1@msn.com :headbang:

If I was a little closer to buying another ZL I would grab another one. I was one of the lucky 5 from the last time and I just want to say they are sweet! If you haven't seen the pics yet there are some powdercoated and installed pics in another thread in the parts section. You won't be sorry! Grab them while you can!

Installation is not that bad, two people would be better.

Mark,

Can you get your feet up on the case guards when you want to stretch your legs on a long ride, or are they too close?
My bro can set his feet on his engine guards almost like forward pegs and its really comfortable.

Blag, yes you can get your feet up to help with longer rides. I use some highway pegs on mine to add to the different foot positions. Makes a big difference on longer rides.

My bro can set his feet on his engine guards almost like forward pegs and its really comfortable.Yea you can get your feet up there but it's not a solid resting, I don't feel like my foot slipping off and hitting the tarmac at 70mph. I think wuputt even has pegs mounted to his frame. How about some zrx frame sliders that double as pegs?

So, if anyone decides they need one in the future, I might consider letting it go, provided no more are ever made. I figure it is as good as money in the stock market anyway! :rotf:

As I have mentioned I have the ZL9 for a while so I could go to the Mpls meet. My son asked me about putting some forward foot pegs on it, I didn't really think it needed them but after the ride over and back in one day I sort of rethought that. So, I got these from CruizerCustomizing, (forgive me!) since I was ordering some other things for the Shadow.

They are Kuryakyan 4507 in case anyone is interested. I don't know if I really like the looks of them or not. They are very solid, but a little bigger than I really wanted. I have not had much luck with the cheapie one size fits all clamp on type, and did not want to screw up the powdercoat on the bars. these are NOT moving on the clamp! They were $116.99 a set.
Not much out there for a 1" bar, other than the ones with the little pyramid pinch washers, which I will not use ever again.

So, what do you think? Good bad ugly indiferent? I'm going out for a ride now. They seem to be a bit high, but this was about as low as I could get them without putting on the bottom of the bar where they would hit almost right away in a corner.

Not to dictate, but you should consider the semi-flat thats the same sheen on the engine. Also easier to upkeep.

That's actually what I wound up with. Put 2 coats of primer and then two coats of the semi-flat. Looks pretty good for an amateur. Can't wait to get em on! Maybe Wed. I'll take pics when I get em on.

I put my case guards on this weekend. Was pretty easy once I figure out what was what. I didn't know that when you take out the bolts that there is a piece in the back that has the threads so when it dropped to the ground, I was a tad confused. (Didn't take me but a second though.)

Have to drop the radiator to get those little buggers back into place. Also plan on buying longer bolts. I went to Home Depot and got #8 bolts with 1.25 pitch thread and 60mm. Worked like a charm. It went together with minimal fuss after that.

I also used a floor jack to raise the engine a little since it will "slump" slightly in the frame when you take the bolts out.

All in all I think it took me 1.5 hours including the trip to the store which is pretty good for me because I'm a MECHANICAL IDIOT. (Means it will probably take anyone else about 10 minutes to do. LOL)

Love em! They're BEEFY! A couple of friends of mine are making some custom highway pegs for bikes and I'm getting one of the first sets for free. Perfect timing I say!

Steve, too much work doing it that way. Did you check out the tech doc posted with the instructions for case savers?

If you're talking to me, no, I didn't know there was a tech doc. I just thought it didn't look too bad with only 4 bolts so I went at it. :rotf:

Instructions.....BAH! Who needs em! ;)

P.S. Everyone should be not dumb like me and read the tech doc so they know about the floating nut thingy that will fall off if you take both bolts off at the same time which will then require you to drop the radiator to get those little buggers back on! Don't be a dummy like me!

Thanks for the heads up!
I did a teardown in the last few months, and was going to put my radiator and case guards on tonight, but after reading this, I'll have to read the tech doc!

****!! I love this site!!

Don't know who ordered the other two sets but I did get mine yesterday Steve......thanks for letting me in on this run too. To tell you the truth, I haven't even opened the box yet and will just store them as is until I need them since the other three sets I've gotten in the past were fine and I'm sure these are the same. This gives me two of Steve's sets and one NOS OEM set in reserve now......guess I should buy some more ZL's!

Have you tried pm'ing some of the members that showed an interest in the guards in this thread? As Paulfun stated, it's vacation time and some people already are dealing with the kids going back to school and some members just don't check in all that often on the site. If you do a search on this site for case guards, there are a lot of threads (some fairly old of course) that come up and some may not be related to this one but you will see posts from members saying they want a set - they just posted in the wrong thread. Hope this is not the last run of these for you - I'm sure there will be more people in the future looking for them - you do good work and it's great when a member provides a product/service for us here. Thanks. Later.
