Hey guys, I have a very, very limited supply of Brushed Aluminum Air Suction Block Off Plates. Intended for race engines only.:laughing7:

These are very basic in design and serve their intended purpose. All you need to do is remove the old air suction caps, pull the reed plate assy out of the valve cover to grind the screws off that protrude through the reed plate, this is required for the new block off plates to sit flat. Re-install the reed plate the proper way, add a small bead of Ultra Black or other high temp RTV to the mounting surface and install the new block off plates with the included stainless button head allen screws. Or you could remove the valve cover, tap and thread some set screws in valve cover air suction holes. You might even get away with just a thin coat of High Temp RTV on the sealing surface of the new block off plates and leave the reed plates out....up to you! I will be tapping and threading my air suction holes when I have the valve cover off next time. Then to finish you just need some 7/32 vacuum caps for the carbs and if using an airbox drop a nice shiny nickel down in the grommet where the main air suction hose was.

These cost $30 a pair, shipped anywhere in the USA. I will accept paypal to paypal or money orders. PM me for payment details. First come, first served.

Race engines only??? I have seen alot of KZ's with block off plates and they were basically stock street engines. Why would it be for race porposes only??

From Wikipedia:

Plausible deniability refers to the denial of blame in loose and informal chains of command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chain_of_command) where upper rungs quarantine the blame to the lower rungs. In the case that illegal or otherwise disreputable and unpopular activities become public, high-ranking officials may deny any awareness of such act or any connection to the agents used to carry out such act.

I got my pair, thanks Mark! :headbang:They're already on the NM bike. I do have a question, though. Are you recommending leaving the reeds in just to help with sealing the plates off? I didn't see any other reason to have them in there anymore. Dave

zlMark
04-19-2009, 02:42 PM
Yep, just for sealing. I don't want the RTV being the only thing keeping the exhaust in. When I pull the valve cover to do the valve adjustment next time i'll plug the ports with set screws and leave the reed plate assembly out.

Jim L

I wanted to know if there are any adverse effects from using these, does the valve cover need to breathe? Does the engine build up pressure or can you cause gasket damage?
I have a set of plates and will be installing them soon.

JimThe airsuction adds air to the exhaust port. When you disable it you will notice less popping on decel, therefore it's easier on the gaskets to be rid of it  It has nothing to do with the valve cover breathing, it's completely separate from the crankcase and the top of the head valve area.

The downside is that the unburned gases won't get burned as good resulting in extra hydrocarbons in the atmosphere.

So the crankcase breather behind the starter takes care of the valve cover breathing as well? As far as unburned gases- I feel better on my bike than in my Silverado, the 6.0 liter is probably worse for the environment!:laughing7:

Those holes look off centered from the whole plate - I'm not not saying they won't work though. These almost look as homemade as the ones I made myself. Later.

Just cleans up the valve cover area - easier maintenance, cleaner look.

zlMark

This is the best way to seal off the ports. The next time you remove the valve cover tap the holes to a 5/16", it just takes a 5 turns of the tap to get the set screw seated all the way in.

Mark aren't you worried about debris and / or water pooling in there and causing corosion?

I might plug mine like that then put the block off plates over it.

Thank you Mark! That was a great way to seal off the ports; I never thought of doing that! I took the valve cover off yesterday and tapped the ports, which was faster than taking off the cover. Great tip!

If you go for the bling factor.. then you can engrave similar to these lids sold in Germany. (Just bought two of those..)

Hey Mark, What type of metal do you use for these?? What thickness? Is it stainless? Do you have a place to get it? Depending on what you are using and what thickness,I might be able to look into it and see what kind of price I can get...
