I need the help of the ElimiNation on this one...I have recently installed a Dale Walker exhaust and stage 2 jetkit, and I have an 'interesting' issue...
When the motor warms up and begins to idle real pretty, I am getting fuel leaking, just trickling really, out of the carb....
It appears to be coming out of the larger (right side) of the 2 holes that are just below the main air intake of the number 4 carb (see attached picture, it sucks due to it being a cellphone pic)...This does not happen until the bike is running for a few minutes, and other than this the bike runs GREAT (lotsa power and it sounds...WOW!!!)
I cannot in good conscious post up a burnout vid or anything else until I sort this issue out, so, put on your thinking caps, ElimiNation!
Thanks in advance!

Isn't that the needle seat? Leading to the main jet? Float level? (All questions from a carb-a-phobe!):help:

Gonna pull the bank of carbs off and take 'em to work tonight to see if I can fix 'em....What do I need to be looking for?
Everything appears to be working fine, that's why it's so frustrating...
(grumbling under breath)
HELP!

Check your float height....You may have a touch too much fuel in the bowl....Height should be 17mm...Make sure needle and seat are all in properly on that carb....
Someone who knows carbs better (like Paul or Rick) might be along to chime in....I know Mark is on the way to Jarney's on his 900 right now...In a few hours I am gonna be headed that way too...On my ZL1

I got ahold of wuputt and he talked me through the float height procedure....Made a few changes there....We shall see....I am stuck at work right now, maybe tomorrow...Although it's supposed to suck for weather here this weekend and I gotta work.

you might want to check the float needle for wear. you want to make sure there isn't really any deep ring or groove on the rubber part. i have used a little carb cleaner in a soft rag or paper towel and spin the needle into it so it cleans it off and smooths out the ring. but be careful! also make sure there isn't any thing holding it open such as a little debris or something.

Moab, before you pull the carbs off try opening the drain screws and crank the bike over a couple of times with the starter. If any debris is in the floats it will dislodge it. close the drain screws and try everything again. Might not clear all the first time and may not at all but sure beats pulling the carbs.

Hoping the float height will help, as long as the weather is gonna be for crap here for the next few days I am gonna set all of my float heights (thanx Professor wuputt) and make sure mt carbs are free of any and all debris....Also, gotta fit a fuel filter as I forgot to initially.
Thanks for all of the advice!

Did you change/inspect the float needle? Even though you have the float height set correctly, could that still be causing an overfill of the bowl? Take question with caution, I'm a carb idiot!

I had the same kind of thing on my bike last year, and I cleaned my jet needle and throttle slide and put a little light oil on them and it took care of it. If your jet needle is brand new, then I would check that it doesn't have a slight bend in it. As others have said, the float might still be the problem.

I wonder if poor o-ring condition on my air mixture screw could cause this???
Prolly really worn after all these years.
I may just go ahead and order rebuild kits for all 4 of my carbs and make sure this is not the cause of all this headache...Besides, the rebuild kits include new float needles anyhoo...2 birds with one stone....But I have to go to my darling bride and tell her I need another hundred bucks....Yeesh.

Make sure you still have all 4 metal washers on your air screws too!

lowlife...Yes, but when does my luck run out?
wuputt....What washers?
Bacchus...Huh? These are mine, I've never sent them anywhere.
I think I see a carb rebuild times 4 in my future....Have all four carbs set at 17mm float height...All have been stripped down and cleaned thoroughly...All airscrews set a 3 turns out (per DW's jetkit instructions)
I will put them on in the AM tomorrow and see what happens....I hope this fixes it, but I am gonna go start sweet talkin' the Mrs for the hundred bucks for the rebuild kits....
HEY, If I order 'em tomorrow, I will have 'em here by tuesday...
Wish me luck!

After pulling the air adj look into the hole, should have a tiny washer on top of the o-ring.
Look on evil for seller "georgefix" he will have your kits! Think I paid $67 for the last one I bought from him. If he doesn't have a set listed just email him, fast response time and he will list BIN for you!
