ZL400 using 17mpg YIKES

Hi Guys seems my ZL is acting up again, went out for a 400km (250 mile) last weekend and the weekend before and after getting stranded on the side of the road without any fuel on the first trip,I have been paying careful attention to the fuel consumption it seems I am getting between 17 and 25mpg :help: obviously this is seriously excessive for a 400, also I now have some black soot on the frame from the exhausts, as well as the Plugs looking rather black, so I am guessing a rather rich condition, any pointers on where to start looking for potential problems?

I am here to say this now....

HE DID NOT BUY THAT ZL400 FROM ME......BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE ONE OF MY BIKES WITH THE MPG:rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

Looks like I will be fully rebuilding the carbs, new jets etc, they are really not in the best of conditions, looks like they have had some serious screwdriver abuse, cant see that helping things...
