Gonna restore the faded clearcoat on my zl900 fork lowers. My thoughts on this process are to chemically strip the existing finish so I won't disturb the factory brushed look and then prep the metal for POR-15 Glisten PC (http://www.por15.com/GLISTEN-PC/productinfo/GPCGG/) I plan to document this entire process and i'm open for tips for anyone who has successfully done this. I haven't found anything yet that sounds better than the Glisten PC (http://www.por15.com/GLISTEN-PC/productinfo/GPCGG/) <--Click on the link to read more about Glisten PC

That sure is pricey. Have you gone to a auto paint supply store yet? I got some quality clearcoat material a number of years back (forgot the name) that I used on my H2 triple. I remember that is was much less than that , and it was very high quality stuff. Maybe the prices have gone up, but its worth a visit. I even got a 3 page pamphlet on the proceedure with the bottle. Do you plan on using aircraft stripper? Works great, just be careful what it touches. I swear by that stuff. Walmart even carries it. keep us posted on the job. It shouldn't be that difficult with the chemical stripper.

Yes it sure is pricey! But it sounds like exactly what I need! I also plan on refinishing the yellowed engine covers on my Venture. Yea that air craft stripper is the bomb!

For what it's worth, I used to be in the auto-body business, and the automotive clears didn't do well sticking to aluminum. Just look around at all the cars with aluminum rims that have the clear pealing or cracking, leaving parts of the rim exposed to the elements and causing discoloration. If going the POR route, would definitely use their prep; aluminum tends to give off an oily coat the limits adhesion.

I have had several aluminium intake manifolds clear coated, with automotive clear.all have turned out great, the one on my camaro was done 8yrs ago.It was new at the time, just took it out of the box,and cleared it.The others were sand blasted, then cleared.I would not hesitate to do the forks with it.Have a look.the engine is pretty dirty in the close up,but the nice thing is with the clear it cleans right up.The clean pic doesn't show to well.

Can't attest to the Glisten but I have used POR products for over 10 years (hell maybe 20) . used them when they first came out, undercoated the GTO no complaints. If you think its the right stuff...spend the money once and do it right.

I didn't want to knock the por15.If it is as good as thier rust killer,it should be fine.I have also used it on every old car I have worked on.

I have been stalling and haven't ordered the clear yet. I have read that VHT is recommended over the Glisten PC (http://forum.caswellplating.com/metal-polishing-questions/144-vht-clear-glisten-pc-polished-aluminum-protection.html) and is much, much cheaper.

I read the PDF Directions for the Glisten PC (http://www.por15.com/Data%20Sheets/glisten%20pc%20directions.pdf) stuff sounds real finicky!

I'm leaning towards VHT wheel clear. Anyone used it yet?
