View Full Version : ZL600 rack & saddlebags

I've waited quite a while, and been looking and looking, but cannot find the small fender rack for my 86 ZL600. Since these are fewer than honest politicians, I was wondering if anyone has had luck/experience with any alternative/aftermarket products? I didn't know if any of the aftermarket items would work or not. If I can't find a premanufactured item, I've decided to "manufacture" one of my own design. That should be an interesting adventure. . . :help:
Saddlebags - there is a big leather auction coming up in my area soon, that has quite a few saddlebags for sale. I can't tell if any are throw-overs or not, so - has anyone had luck making brackets for their bikes? Since I'm contemplating making a fender rack anyway, it didn't seem too far a stretch to make saddlebag brackets, too. . . . .
Any suggestions always welcomed.

Here's one for the newer 600 - seems like you said it wouldn't fit though(?)

Thanks, KB, but you're right, it won't fit. The one for the 96 is tube, and has totally different mountings(Thanks, Furchin!). The 86 has flat stock instead. Looks like the fabrication plant is back in production. . . :nike:

Randy, I can probably take mine and make a tracing of it on paper. This would give you the design and overall dimensions. About the only thing I could not do is trace the mounting brackets but I will not rule that out till I tried.

I have a '96 ZL600 so our fenders are different and this may not apply, but the Saddleman universal brackets work very well on mine. They're a standard bolt-on style. Motorcycle Superstore (www.motorcycle-superstore.com) carries them and has a picture, so it may be worth checking out.
