I am getting frustrated here trying to get my zl running right and just finding more and more problems that have been caused by the previous owners careless repairs. Today I rode the bike to work which is only a mile away from me and when I got there, fuel started to pour out of the carb on the left inside of the bike. I dont remember the cylinder number but it just kept coming out. I believe the problem is in the petcock but I just wanted to make sure that the petcock is in fact vaccuum opperated and should shut off when the engine is turned off. I pulled the fuel line off the petcock and fuel litterally shot out of it. To add to my awesome day, my k&n pod flew off after I put it back on when riding home and is now flattened in the middle of the road. If anyone can back me up on my thought of a petcock problem it would make me a little happier and I hope that the answer is not me having to rebuild the carbs.

Also, on another note, does anyone know where to get a single pod filter to replace my pancaked one.

"ON" and "RES" are vacuum operated.
"PRI" is not vacuum operated - gas will pour out if you pull the line.

Sounds like you might also have a stuck float valve if the fuel was also running out the carb.

After all the bike is 25 yrs old. The factory petcock is junk, prolong the agony and try to keep it, or upgrade to a pingel manual petcock. The fuel pouring out of the carbs is from dirt getting by the filter in the tank(most likely). Also the float valves should be polished with a q-tip and metal polish to help them seal. Carbs may need a rebuild. Fuel tank venting is a known problem. Inline filters create their own problem. Cam Chain, tensioners, guides, valve adjustments every 5k. I could go on, and on, and on. Pod filters require more than their worth,, put the stock airbox back on.
I wonder how much gas is in the oil?

I do not have the stock airbox in any form and do not want to have to find one for it either. Where can I find one of those manual petcocks because I have definately had more problems with vaccuum petcoks than I care to mention.

What pod filter are you using? If it's the zl900 K&N pod then they come as a kit RC2774 and the individual replacements are RC2770
