argghhhhh.... i love my bike.

Ok, was checking the compression of all the cylinder. The battery became weak, so i connected a car battery i had in my garage with boost cables. I use to do this specially in the spring when the bike is hard to start and never had problems.

Anyway, i did all the procedure to check the compression. All went fine. Reassemble the engine head, coil, put back the tank and decided to start it.

The bike was in 1st gear when i first hit the start button and the engine started right away... wow, pulled the cluch and all was fine. Killed the engine. Tried to understand what just appened.
Did not understand why the bike did start with the transmission in 1st. Put the bike in neutral, put the key on, notice that the neutral light and oil light are not working neither. Started the bike, was idling with no problem but the thachometer (rpm) is also not working.

Stop the engine back, check the cables and all (the best i could), tried to start it back NOTHING... no response from the starter at all, no light.
Checked in the fused box, the horn fuse is gone and also the main 30A one.
Replace all the fuse, now the bike start ok but my neutral safety switch is not working, the neutral green light on the dash and oil light is not working, the RPM is not working.

Any genius here know where to start ?

Clean and di-electric grease all connections. Do it. Save yourself the frustration of not doing it cause it needs to be done

I would first check the horn fuse again.

If the fuse is ok, start the bike. If the indicators and tach are out, rap on the fuse box and see if they come back.
Give it a good hit with your knuckles, can't hurt it.

Is the rpm and dash light connected to the horn fuse

I know the tach uses the horn fuse, not sure about indicators.

Yes WD40 will work. Just try to wipe off the excess.

You should sleep better taking relief in the fact that if you take your time and fix it correctly the first time you wont have to keep working on it and will have more ride time!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the long run!:HappyFacePuttFrnt7K

The reason for rapping on the fuse box - these commonly get loose solder joints and cause crazy indications. You can take it apart, resolder everything, good as new (or better).

was looking the wiring diagram and notice that everything connected to the brown wire are not working.

gosh, was following the brown cable (diagram) from the tachometer, it goes to the neutral light, goes to the oil temp light, goes to front brake switch, so the front brake switch is not working neither, rear brake switch not working also blah blah....

all those parts are connected to the same wire, the brown one.

How to know it there is a fuse connected to this brown wire ?

Will read some info on the junction box to see where the brown wire is connecting to.

As you said, could be the junction box that has a loose or bad connection right ? So even if the fuse is ok, the junction box might be bad right ?

All is fine now... played with the junction box, greased all the connector.

All is fine. I can go to sleep now.

You know when the ZL900 is fine tuned, the engine run so well. I will take a little ride tomorrow, but all is fine, just by the way it was revving few minutes ago.. Carbs are clean, the bike is in top shape (or almost)

Will open the head to change the 2 intakes valves.

Thanks all for your help

this board rock ! :headbang:

there is a fuse that will knock out all that if it blows. tach will light up but will not indicate any rpm. second from the right if I remember correctly
