The throttle on my 87 ZL600 sticks and won't return to the closed (idle) position when released, obviously pretty darn dangerous.
Anyone on here experienced this and can you give me some ideas of where to look, lube or loosen things befor I screw something up?
Thanks in advance
Ike
I love this bike, most "funnest" bike I have ever owned!!!

I'm sure the guys more familiar with the 600 will chime in, but on my 900, there are 2 throttle cables, and the return one was dangerously frayed when I bought the bike. I replaced both, they were still available from mama kaw a little more than a year ago. There may be some aftermarket company making them, also? I think there are a few threads on replacing them, and not forgetting to lube them before installation. HTH.

There are two cables, open and close. There also must be a spring somewhere, as mine does seem to at least pull closed when I release the grip. There's a spring on one of the cables called a stop spring. I think it's on the throttle opening cable. I'm wondering if your spring has sprung. . .
Motion Pro has cables if they need to be replaced, and you can find them on eBay from time to time as well. From the parts diagram, looks like the spring is part of the cable assembly, so I'm not sure if it's available separately.
Another thought, though - - could there be too much play in your existing cables? Did one come disconnected? I was thinking while typing that maybe it's just adjusted improperly or even just loose. Gotta be something fairly easy, there's not that much to the cable assemblies on the throttles.

As previously stated, it's most likely a sticky idle cable. Replacement throttle cables can be had for $15-20 apiece.

The grip feels like it is on too tight, even if I only open the throttle a small amount it stays in place. I do know thy the po had replaced the stock handlebar, I wonder if he screwed something up???

You might pull the grip off and see if that little plastic end cap is still there in the end of the bar. I had to remove that on my 1000 for the grip to return properly. Later.
