so i got the tank today and just could'nt wait to see what it would look like, and share it with you all. looks like i'm going to be cutting up a seat pan unless i can come up with either a broken seat pan i can use or a different seat all together. amazingly so far the handlebars clear it pretty good.
the only real problem is going to be a place to mount the fuel valve or possibly some kind of remote fuel valve.

any constructive criticism and input is welcomed!!

I think you should make a seat pan and safe the ZL seat. Never know you may want to change it back some day and parts are hard to find for ZL's
I know a 3 gal. tank make's it hard to do any long ride's but I like the way they look on the bike myself .
I have thought about getting a tank and make it a little wider and weld the lid on and put a cap on top of that

Looks like it fits pretty good. So, not enough clearance for the fuel valve?
You can figure something out, like an elbow fitting that takes it a few inches
outward away from it obstruction. Or, an inline valve.
Like Chris asked, how many gallons are you gaining with that tank?

from what the research shows, the zrx fuel tank has a 5 gallon capacity.

the fuel valve comes out right at the valve cover so there really isn't any clearance. so i think i'll add a couple of hose barbs, one with a longer draw straw, on the bottom of the tank where i have room. then an inline fuel valve. found one off of a gv 1400 cavalcade and also a gs that looks like it would work. remote mount and all.

the seat i really don't want to cut up so i will have to fit something else. will try to un bolt the rear seat and use it though.
really want to be able to put it back to stock if need be.

thanks for the input, keep it coming!!

That is pretty sweet! Are you going to paint it, or the bike to match?

I was wondering what the stock tank would look like without that lid (is it called the 'doghouse'), but welding it on for extra fuel capacity is a really good idea.

thanks for the input.

the rest of the bike has a fairly new paint job from the previous owner. don't know the color but its kinda grown on me.

however going with the zrx color scheme is a great idea! maybe a variation of it, i'm liking silver base with flat black or a krinkle black stripes down the fenders and tank. not so bright colors. the zrx tank has a dent on the other side so it will have to be repaired and painted anyway.

i'd like to see that. it would be a difficult decision between the flat black or krinkle black stripes. been thinkin' about doing a flat black stripe on my gloss black body this winter, now you got me thinkin' krinkle. i used krinkle black to paint the custom dashboard on my Jeep CJ7, I thought it looked really good.
...come to think about my Jeep some more, it had gloss black body, silver stripes on the hood, and flat black accessories (with the krinkle dash), it was an amazing combination.

no i got straight bars, (also called broomstick) with a universal bar riser.
also have new mirrors on the way that i think will look sweet as the stock mirrors are no longer useful.
i absolutely love the bars, they just set the bike off really nice and i like the more aggressive riding stance. probably not the most comfortable for long distance, but i rode for 5 hrs with them, and was starting to feel it in my shoulders after about 3 1/2-4 hrs.

i think im going to do the motor in krinkle. not sure if it would be too much in the stripe also..

i'll have to get some more pics of the tank from the rear as i think it looks even better from the back. fills out the bike really nicely. :headbang:
i like the way this bike was painted: its also one bad a$$ bike!
