After chatting with Utah Eliminator, we thought we would see what kind of interest there would be in having a day at the drags in the year 2010. We could possibly make a weekend out of it?? We have members on the east and west coast who would attend this so a central location would be a must as well as a fast dragstrip with good quality air. A search for fast dragstrips brings me this:
http://www.brainerdraceway.com/track-info/dragstrip.html
A centrally located track that comes to mind is Heartland Park in Topeka:
http://hpt.com/ which is approx 1200-1300mi from Pottsville PA and Phoenix AZ.
This track here might be better for us than Heartland Park Topeka.

doubtfull a long run like that could be done yet this year for me!
guess I will have to settle for a couple of trips to one of my local tracks before the year is done! Hopefully we have good weather on sat so I can get a few passes in.

I would most def be interested in that! Start planning now so we can do a weekend or a week. Camping on site would be a plus as would interesting local roads! BIR definitly fits those requirements. There are a lot of resorts close by, we could get a couple cabins on a lake but they fill up early so reservations need to be made well in advance!
What about Indy?(I think they have a fun nite once a month)
Does it have to be a 1/4?There is some nice 1/8 mile tracks around here.I know the local one here can be rented for the day.(depends on the time of year if it is open for sat or sun)
I think it would make for a fun weekend.

Really like to keep this centrally located in the USA so it would be do-able for everyone thats willing to drive a good day!

I'll be chatting with my old buddy "Nitrotaz" who is a member here about the SRCA dragstrip (http://www.srcadragstrip.com/). Would like to know a little more about the facility and the possibility of renting the track for a day.
This could be even more do-able with the vmax guys, or a 80's muscle bike shootout and include the V65 group too!! Oh yea baby we gotta do this! I'm gonna add a poll to see who would really come to this.

Will do! Can we at least pick a month??? May or June would be my preference, can't do anything around the July 4th holiday though, I usually spend 2 or 3 weeks in northern KY every year!!!

Yea, but that couple weeks vacation is a family thing and we are ALWAYS busy, in fact, we never have enough time to see everyone and do all the things we want to do. Trailering the bikes up there wouldn't be a good idea, my wife would shoot me. If we do it in Kansas, I can take the time off and go with a buddy of mine and it will be ALOT more fun, just the guys, a few beers, scantily clad women.........etc. Know what I mean? :rotf:

OK, time to stop all the smack talk and start making plans. Who will attend and how do you feel about the location... SRCA Dragstrip (http://www.srcadragstrip.com/)
NO MORE SMACK TALK IN THIS THREAD.

I'm there. Name the place and time. I'd prefer something close to Texas, but will travel as far as KY. Can't be too close to the July 4th holiday, I'd say I would need a week on either side of that date to stay married. Other than that, count me in. I will bring a V65 Magna, a VMAX, a ZL900 and a ZL1000. All BONE STOCK! I will even let distinguished members here make a few runs, as long as you agree to "you wreck, you own", gentlemens agreement! I won't hold it against you if the bike blows up though, unless you miss a shift, and we'll have video to prove it! I think this is going to be an AWESOME event, I can't wait!!!!! :headbang:

the guy who responded on the vmax fourm who goes by "one to the max" is definately the guy to get connected with on this. his name is sean morely, and he builds custom vmax's and aftermarket vmax products. He has participated in organizing similar events for the vmax riders group.
sean is an incredibly good guy who I have spoken with many times and purchased product from. his customer support and williness to assist others in building thier project bikes is top notch. get hooked up tight with sean on this, and you can count on vmax owner participation.
ZLmark you should definately talk with sean! 316-619-8411
going through vmax fourms.net and sean morely is definately the way to go.....the riders in that users group are not stuck up and stupid like they are at the "official" yamaha vmax owners association, and there seems to be alot more interest and activity at vmaxfourm.net than there is at the official yamaha vmax site

I think the list of bikes for this event is currently, at least in my mind...
1. kawasaki ---zl9\10, kz
2. yamaha ----vmax, 1100 maxim
3 susuki-------madura
4. honda------v4's, magna, sabre
keep in mind if this event includes the kz crowd it will definately add alot of potential participants and vintage bikes however.....the kz has been the foundation of drag bikes forever, and if you want to huge power gains there are many, many, products available to the kz rider in current production, so these guys will be able to bring serious fire power to the event and it is very possible a kz would be the fastest bike.
aslo wondering if there should be a 600 &\or 750 class? this would also serve to include additional bikes and riders....
I'm thinking that some brain storming is necessary to clearly establish the guidlines for the event are in order....
including kz's will also open the event up to pre-1980 bikes...might be a good thing.... more cross-over appeal = more people
there are other really cool first generation crotch rockets, one example would be the fj1200, saw one on the street the other day...including these first gen. crotch rockets would again add crossover appeal and expand the event but it might change the atmosphere or characture of it.
somehow it seems as though the crotch rocket and the cruser crowd dont really hang together very often...maybe the event could begin to change that by way of the 80's (or earlier) vintage theme..

Well, I see the GS as the equivalent of the KZ, in fact, those are still the main powerplants they use for drag racing to this day, correct? The big KZ1000 and GS1100 blocks? I don't know, we need to think about this and make sure we end up with the intended audience. This all started as V65 vs. Eliminator, so do we really want to bring in bikes that aren't really "muscle bikes" perse? If it were up to me, I would have two classes, stock and non-stock. All bikes would have to have been built between 80 and 90, I think we could make an exception for the VMAX's, because they were basically the same from 1985 - 2007 with the oldest ones actually being a little faster. I mean, shoot, we're not going to stop anybody from bringing whatever and racing, but the grudge matches that we are intending to settle will just have to be lined up and policed by ourselves, we know which bikes are on "equal" footing, and which are not, and that will provide the best races. If we call it the 80's muscle bike shootout, we can let it be known ANY older Japanese bikes are "allowed" to participate, we'll just have to make sure we have a good handle on which bikes will be racing each other. Some other bikes that "might" participate that aren't "officially" muscle bikes would be the 83 Honda CB1100F, 80-82 Honda CB900F, the Honda CBX, Kawasaki KZ900, KZ1000, KZ1100, KZ1300, GPZ900, GPZ1000, GPZ1100, Yamaha XS1100 and of course, the turbo bikes, Yamaha Seca Turbo, Honda CX500 or CX650 turbo, Suzuki XN85 turbo, GPZ750 turbo etc..........we could be opening up a big can of worms here, but my take is invite them all, and see who shows up. We'll make sure the right bikes race each other and I'm sure it will all work itself out in the end!

I think if it's a cruiser with shaft drive then bring it....no V-Tweenies, no chains, no belts i agree !!! we have to draw a line somewhere, otherwise it'll just turn into a circus,& people will just show up with anything. it'll take away from the whole reason this idea was thought up to begin with !!!!!!! I wouldn't argue with shaft drive bikes only, that would eliminator a bunch of KZ's and GS's...........but would also eliminate all the GPZ's. I don't know, maybe we need to put it to a vote, get everyone's opinion????

i hear what you are saying TSST, i love GPZ's but technically they are not cruisers. a vote could be cool, but--- look how long it took to get t-shirt idea's narrowed down, & in the end no shirts ! i think ultimately the decision should be ZLMark's this way,the event will happen this coming year. not everyone will be totally happy, but at least we can keep it " 80's Power Cruiser Shootout ! "
I think all you need is 2 class's.Stock and modified. It should be more of a track day, than actual races. That should keep everyone happier, and getting along.I think "80's muscle bikes" covers what should be there.(jmo)
I put this on another post, should have put it here.
The shaft drive might be a easy way to limit the type of bikes.
We will also have to come up with the track safety rules,(snell rated helmet, jacket, and such)Not all tracks are the same. Also if they have to tech the bikes. Some tracks do,and some don't.Just so know one is surprised when they show up.

No need to worry about track rules. The track will dictate the rider safety rules to us! They will even if we have rented the track still have to do thier tech inspection which will include your safety gear. And they will have thier people do it and run the actual racing.

About half a dozen so far, but nobody is going to commit until we get a firm date and location published, heck, I can't even commit if it's a date I can't work around. I have a yearly family vacation in Kentucky around the July 4th holiday, so as long as it doesn't interfere with that, I'm good. Once we publish the date and location, we'll start a head count, I will probably be bringing a couple of people with me also!

No, half a dozen from the V65 board, and trust me, that number will likely double or triple once the date and time is confirmed!!!!!
