Any of you hotel squaters that utilized the rooms that I booked last year should let me know about the 2010 show. I made reservations last year on Feb 14th so we had a place to stay. I would like to think that we have time this year but never hurts to get a jump on things.

I'm planning on being there again this year so yes, I'll need the reservations that I had last year Martin.:headbang:

That motel was fine with me Martin. With two guys in the room, the cost isn't bad on either and it was a nice place to stay!

I'm in the "last minute if I show up mode" I've slept in the trunk of my 66 impala on more than 1 occasion....Will see if the 72 is done or not. Nitroshot called lastnight and he is leaning towards going....

Will they let me crash at the event to "keep an eye on things"?

NO NO NO they will not allow that inside the compound, outside yes, in the camping area. But I may be able to lock you in my trailer and you can at least listen for disturbances and if you hear anything, call us, maybe we'll come and rescue our bikes, Jay, you might be on your own though.

Just make sure you have a sleeping bag cause with an avatar like that your not getting in the camper with me!!! You will get the pup tent and the door to the camper will be locked!!

Even with 24,k on it I know it will make it to the east coast I would like to be rolling about 50,k by 2012 ...

What's fuuny is Sunday I took a ride and we had a new guy with us and a couple of the guys where talking about how I gave them a Hell of a run on that Big Old Hog ... Sportbike rides think nothing else can go fast ether...LOL But then they also said my ZL9 out ran 'em ... :headbang:

* AS A REMINDER TO ALL ZL-OA MEMBERS ATTENDING "VMD 2010" *

the zl-oa mobile workshop will be on clubs space. please feel free to work on your zl's in trailer. "only rules for trailer"

please put tools back in toolbox when finished borrowing them

please check with me before taking any of tools outside trailer ( so i can keep track of them )

keep trailer clean inside, so others can take their turn in a mess free work area

" only zl-oa members & immediate family ( wives, girlfriends, in some cases, husbands, or boyfriends) allowed in trailer ( no outside people walking by, or non club member friends allowed in trailer !!!! )"

* FOR ALL NEW TO ATTENDING "Vmd" *
if i am not at club space, & you need to use trailer,or tools, check with a senior member, & get their permission. (zlmark, Wuputt, Paulfun, Furchin, Markus, Willy D ) are a few you can check with.

so far, over the years, i have not had any problems, with any of above mentioned, but each year i bring more tools with me, & we have more new members attend. i just need to keep track of tools, & want to be able to help out all my zl brothers & sisters !

it has been a real honor to be able to help my brothers & sisters over the past several years with this, & keep in mind, i dont not ask for $$$$ for use of trailer or tools. this is my contribution to ZL-OA !

HOWEVER, if you break tool !? well, lets just say, you are responceble to make it rite with me (LOL)
Thanks !! CHRIS

Unfortunately, the trailer didn't pan out so it looks like I'll be bringing one ZL1k in the truck for the event.:frown: I wasn't too high on hauling them in an open trailer anyway so I just need to concentrate on picking up a nice Low Hauler over the fall or winter and have it for next year. It's great that you worked it out to make it Chris.....wouldn't be the same without you Bro! And thanks for supplying the club with the workshop....you 'da man! Hopefully, everyone that is planning to work on their bikes will also think ahead and order all the OEM stuff from Momma Kaw such as top end rubber, o-rings, dampers, etc. that they will need. If "emergencies" arise, I will have my stock of that stuff for members to borrow and replace later after the event. Between Bachuss and myself, we'll prolly have 'ya covered but do try to plan ahead.:hello:

CHRIS

I got a tip for those of you hauling your bikes to VMD. Markus and already discussed this on the phone and I thought I would share it with all of you. When the bike is bouncing down the road in the trailer so is the fuel in the fuel bowls. You may end up with fuel overflowing into the crankcase and/or combustion chamber. I would drain all the fuel bowls, and for those of you running a factory petcock, I would clamp off the fuel line or disconnect and cap it. The pressure build-up in the fuel tank from bouncing around will overcome the diaphram spring in the factory petcock. :nike:

See you on Thursday!

This is an absolute fact because it happened to me last year with the one I hauled on a trailer. I got back home and had to take the plugs out and dry the cylinders from being flooded and also an oil change from the oil getting saturated. Draining the bowls and capping off the petcock outlet should take care of these issues so don't forget if your ZL's are going into a trailer. We don't want anyone bending rods at the event when you fire up those monsters so be careful guys! Thanks for posting this Mark...it slipped my mind completely.
I'm really stoked and excited about seeing the regulars again and meeting all the new people that will come too......can't wait! :notworthy:

I finally got my bike running, however my cooling fan still doesn't seem to be working. I'm planning to get to the show by Friday night and hoping that some of you guys can help me troubleshoot the problem on Saturday.

I'm really looking forward to the show and to meeting my ZL brothers.

After spending about four hours on cleaning up and getting my ZL1k ready, it figures that they'd be calling for rain! Maybe it'll hold off till I get there at least! That bike is shining like when it was new! Time to service the truck this morning and then give it a quick cleaning so it will be worthy of hauling that bike :notworthy: :laughing7: ! On that note........I want to shed some light on something I found yesterday. Had been meaning to pull the doghouse off of my ZL1k "rider" tank and clean/wax underneath it. Boy, am I glad I did! Absolutely filthy under there and I'm certain it's the first time it's been off since new. For those that have the ZL1k, you should check that just to be sure you don't have something more serious than dirt and grime going on there! I didn't but had alot of dirt and some corrosion under the aluminum on the doghouse! The problem with the dirt is the gas cap gasket that is missing on almost all ZL1k's tanks. I'll have mine with me if Bachuss wants to have them reproduced and sell them in his store! Should be a money-maker John..... EVERYBODY needs one! :nike:

Supposed to rain Friday, but not Sat & Sun Hopefully no rain Friday evening in Ashland.

Repeat post:

For what it's worth, just mentioning I will be at Mid Ohio this weekend goofing around. I will be wearing a black Kawasaki ball cap with wide green corduroy and narrow red fabric stripes and the really old sort of swirl Kawasaki emblem like was used on the old W650 like this one, http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/images/thumb/8/88/KawasakiEmblemC2ss.jpg/180px- but mirrored the other way and a checkered flag in the center of the swirl. I'll be in turn 1 at Ashland flat track races Friday, on the hill by the S turns Saturday and Sunday, as well as wandering the swap meet, some of the time. We'll likely be in some monster RV trailer up at the Chicane on the Key Hole. My friend got a new fifth wheel model. We'll be sitting out at times watching bikes go by, especially Saturday evening. I should be there with a Strong Bow and a cigar.

I will be looking up the Eliminator coral there for sure. I will enjoy meeting up with some new riders. Should be a good weekend and all. Just hope it doesn't rain out Ashland.

By the way, for those of you who aren't aware of it, the Ashland vintage half mile is one of the best run shows I've seen. It is up I-71 north of Lexington and Mid Ohio. If you want to suffer with going through Mansfield it is just off SR42. Do a mapquest.

If you haven't seen flat track, you're missing something special, if you have you will find this to be about as good as it gets. All kinds of old dirt trackers and no XR750 parade. I'm guessing $15 to get in. Races at 6 and run till near midnight solid. Very little track prep for the most part.

I'll be in turn 1 in a lawn chair smoking a stogie for sure.

The Marks are taking over! We have wissler, Markus, nitroshot, klx678, and myself so far!

Others in attendance as of Thursday night are Chris, Bacchus, wuputt, Sean and Ashley, Paul, and furchin.

As usual it poured down rain last night and I got stuck on the bike right in the middle of it. Hope today will be a little dryer! Once this moves out today the weather should be great for the rest of the weekend. We will be sure to take plenty of pics for ya!

This is an event that everyone needs to get to if you can. Its great to put faces to the names and see everyone gathered around a bike in the club trailer that Chris brings every year to figure out a members problem to get them on the road. This is a fun and great experiance and I hope to make many more in the future. Keep the rubber done and the throttle open.

I absolutely recommend vintage days to anyone. Unfortunately the half mile at Ashland was cancelled, but the races were great - hot, but great. An acquaintance through my cam chain project won three or more races with his KZ650 Original Middle Weight Superbike and his KZ1000R ELR in the Original Heavy Weight Superbike. Sam Williams of the Cleveland area proves to be incredibly fast in spite of being a bear of a rider physically and in skills. He's probably 55+ and flys on the track. He picked up one of my tensioners last year, I dropped it off at the track. Another friend made. If you get to Mid Ohio next year look for #47 on the track. He's a great guy.

Now for you guys - GREAT GUYS! I stopped over Friday after the rains and my spending the day from 8am to 3pm at the Good Guys Street Rod Club Nationals at Columbus State Fairgrounds. I got to meet up with a bunch of you guys. You're a friendly accepting bunch. I don't have much trouble shooting the breeze with people and you were very accepting of me. I'm horrible with remembering names, but faces I'll remember - kept seeing you guys going out and in as we were parked on the thoroughfare just across from the bike demo area fence.

It was enjoyable to shoot the breeze both Friday night with the guys there and again on Saturday. I didn't stop by Sunday because I understood a bunch of you went to Dragway 42. I hope it was fun and safe.

It will be great to see those of you who are at the races next year. I hope a good time was had by all, I know I enjoyed stopping in with the ZL-OA group both days. Now I'm going to be looking at every guy on a ZL from here on to see if it's one of you guys. If you see some guy on a KLX650 or a 550 Zephyr here in central and eastern Ohio, wave. There aren't too many of us around, kind of like Eliminators, so it's pretty likely to be me.

Are any of you going to the Superbike races too? Maybe I'll see some of you there too. Again, I'll be in the S turns for most of the races, probably on the fence this time due to the size of the crowd. I'll likely be smoking a stogie and try to mention what hat and shirt I may have on. Stop down and say hi if you recognize me.

Later...

Wow great member turnout again this year! Just goes to show the passion we have for these bikes!!!!

The weather cleared up on early evening on friday so it was good to get the bad weather out of the way early this weekend! Saturday was super busy since Friday's weather was so crappy.

The group ride through the Mohican forest (http://www.motorcycleroads.com/routes/MidWest/OH/OH_30.shtml) was just awesome, some really nice riding down in that area! I hung out in the back of the pack with Nitroshot for the entire ride just to enjoy the look of eliminators in front of me as far as I could see. We did get some video and will post it later this week when I get them.

Sunday we packed up the club space bright and early and headed our way to Dragway42. Members in attendance at the track where Wuputt, Sean and Ashley, Bacchus, Jarney, Gremlin, Nitroshot, Markus56, Furchin, Paulfun, WillyD, Greg Couch, and myself. It was cool as hell to see all the Eliminators going down the track! My bike ran as good as I expected with several 11.5 runs. With just a little more tweaking and tuning I should be 11.4's very soon! We have a ton of Video and a buttload of pics! We will get them posted as soon as possible!

I forgot to take pics most of the time but I did get some here they are.

hello all!!

just got back home ...man I left the shop a mess...guess Ill be unpacking and cleaning the shop up tonight.

the VMD trip was absolutely awesome!! I definately intend to make it an annual event. Obviously anytime there are that many zl's in one place it is something very, very special and a really enjoyed seeing everybody's eliminators. the bikes are as interesting and unique as the people who have built and ride them, each one was different. It was a totally outstanding display of eliminator power !!!

I definately came away with an even greater appreciation for the ZL series than ever and got a chance to learn more about tuning and repair as well.

even more so beyond the bikes were the ZL-OA members themselves...WOW what a bunch...!! many of you I have spoken with on the phone, but I had not actually met any of the ZL-OA guys at VMD in person prior to this weekend. I honestly can't say if I was more impressed by the incredable display of eliminators or the quality of the character of the ZL-OA members... Every single last one of you guys is great.. really great..truly outstanding individuals. I cant tell you guys how much I enjoyed hangin' with ya'all... ZLmark, wuputt, sean, nitro shot, wissler, chris, gremlin, willy D, markus56, jarney, firchin, paulfun and all the other folks at vmd...... now them is goooood people.. people you want to know

anybody who was thinkin' about coming out this year and didnt.... man.. you missed out BIG TIME.... sucks to be you...lol

I suggest you mark your calendars and make plans to attend next year-- right now!!!

the bikes were great but the ZL-OA members are fantastic outstanding good people and the combination of bikes and bro's put this event totally over the top for me....

extra specail thanks to the ZL-OA guys at vmd for being such a great group from Bacchus!

We rolled into Fairmont last night at midnight!
SHAWN and I agree, every year at VMD gets better! Could not pick a better group to hang with! The club ride was fantastic, even though nobody else can bring themselves to admit there was a Harley leading the group! My friend knows the area well and we allowed him to park his bike just outside the club space!

It was great to see and meet our ZL brothers!

Special thanks to Bacchus for his supply of trinkets! I dont think anyone left without some of his parts!

Wissler, great to meet you, next year we need to get a caravan going, Nitroshot, Lowlife, Moab, Kawtipper and a couple more around here we could dominate the membership attendance with the midwest! The shirts look much better when there is a bunch of them going down the road! Thanks again for your commitment on getting them done!

Chris, VMD wouldnt be the same without your trailer and tools to help out the club! Thank You!

Willy, we much appreciate your patience on the grill when we were out riding and you were standing there on one leg sweating! Next year you will be riding and someone else will be the master chef! No, we dont want anyone to get in a crash so they cant ride and have to cook!

ZLMark and Paulfun, your expert tech support helped get a couple stumbling ZL's running the way they are meant to! Thanks for the tuning and tech tips from all of us!

Marcus, without your treasure chest of new and used parts we would have been in the swap meet searching for the right sensors and relays! I will send you a pocket full of lugnuts for future entertainment!

Martin, first off, congrats on the retirement! Second and perhaps more important, The Yuengling was frosty cold and as always refreshing!

Nitroshot, it was great to meet you! Thanks for the use of your canopy and for snagging the tables from the track! I cant wait to see the results of the 600+ pics on your camera! We shall meet again soon!

ZLMark, once again I have to thank you, my first few years at VMD were near boring, rarely saw another ZL and spent hours searching the swap meet for parts. Then I found KERA and MachIV, Jarney, Rocky and a couple other enthusiasts. Today, with zl-oa, after we hooked up, I look forward to the next VMD the day after the last one! Had you just blew off a zl forum like everyone else, I believe we would all be checking out the forums over the pond occasionally and wishing we had something here! Thanks to you and your knowledge, we have the absolute best Eliminator site in the world!
You are truly one of the best friends I have ever had! I was relieved a bit to see you, you are looking good and doing what you need to do to beat the **** C! Praying for the best for you every day Brother!

There is so much more to say about all of you but I cant begin to say it all! What I can say is, to those of you that couldnt make it this year, you are missing out on the best meeting of Eliminator owners in the USA!

Yep, pretty good weekend. The highlight was definitely the group ride - great roads/scenery. Thanks to everyone that showed up/helped out - too many to list. Had fun at the dragstrip as well. Wish we had more time to hang around with each other. Enjoyed meeting new members and seeing the "regulars". Thanks to puttputt for the tire help and Bacchus and Wissler for letting me "crash" at their cabin. Thanks again to Wissler for the shirts - it really made us look good - at the club space and out on the various rides.

Thanks to ZLMark - without you we would be nowhere - you are the Man!!!!!

I'm pretty new to the zl-oa, having bought my bike in January this year. This was my first VMD and first chance to meet you guys. It surpassed my expectations. I plan to make it next year also and this time don't want to miss the drag strip.

Chris, zlMark, Paulfun, Markus56, thank you so much for helping me figure out my radiator fan problem AND sinking my carbs AND filling my shocks. A special thanks to WillyD, who by loaning me his radiator cap, enabled me to go on one of the best rides ever. Seriously, you guys are the BEST! My first time at this meet, you made me feel like I'd been there years and by the end of the weekend, can truly call you my good friends. It made my first weekend back on my bike very comfortable, being able to trust you guys riding, especially with my blind spot.
The Brotherhood that is ZL-OA is amazing!!! The things you do for each other goes above and beyond.
The parade laps, group ride on Sat. and the day at the drag strip were incredible. I need to re-jet and work on my launch but still turned a 12:20.
Thanks to all for a great weekend, all your valuable tips and input, and accepting me into the group. I hope that I can make it next year (with a better video cam) and turn this into an annual trip.
I'm heading back out today and will post more pics when I get back. Watch youtube for the second vid as its taking forever to upload from my phone.

I had a great time myself...I was limited with being on the crutches but still had a great time...I actually did get to ride my 900 from my trailer to the front of our site (about 300 ft) and it felt good...When you guys all took off for the groupl ride, I would have jumped on my bike to go if I had brought a left shoe with me...I would have forced it on and went for the ride...

Great to see everyone again and meet the new people I met...wissler, nitroshot, mr louky man, klx678....

Zlmark...great launches at the strip and that bike sounds mean...

As always the tech talk info was great: Mark, paul, putt, bacchus. Got to spend quite a bit of quality time talkin this year...Great to sit and talk with nitroshot, wissler, chris, marty, sean and ashley, my roomie markus56, rammy, klx678

Just can't say enough about the brotherhood and all the helpful hands all over the place during the whole weekend....

next year I will be back and I will be riding....guarantee'd...

Willy

Just an idea - when the group photo (when we stopped) of the group ride gets posted - somebody may want to send it to the magazines - AMA, Cycle World, etc. - especially American Motorcyclist Magazine - as they always do a write up with plenty of pics on VMD. Later.

Finally home and still trying to get the second video off my phone. Too big to upload or send so I'll get it up as soon as I figure how to get it out of my phone.
Meanwhile here's a few of the over 600 photos Bacchus took with my camera from Dragway 42. Great shots Bacchus!:notworthy: Unfortunately, there's none of the Camaro on the track.

Hey WillyD,

I tried to pm you, but couldn't figure out how to attach a photo to it.

The replacement for the radiator cap you loaned me at VMD came in today. See the photo. For some reason, I thought the cap I got from you looked different. Maybe had white lettering on it.

Guys, does this look an original cap. Willy, I was intending to send you the new cap, so let me know which one you want and I'll get it too you pronto.

Louky

Well I now know what it feels like to go through withdrawls inside of a rehab! My 'puter crashed shortly after I headed to Mid-Ohio and just got another one and back on line as of a couple of days ago. Man, it sucks to be deprived of this site after 'ya get addicted! :help:
I'll start by saying thanks to all who attended this years' event and made it one of the best weekends in memory for me! Was great to see all my friends from last year and to meet the new attendees from this one. For those of you that didn't make it but could've.....you missed out on one heck of a good time! It would have to be something catastrophic to keep me away from this event in the future! The only thing I'd like to see changed next year from this one is more group rides! I wished we could spend a whole week together next year or maybe plan to stay for the Superbike Week after VMD. One of my buddies here has an RV that I'm sure I can get that would sleep 8 or 10 of us so maybe some of us can shoot for that goal. That part of Ohio has alot of great scenery like Kentucky has and I'd like to explore much more of it next year with you guys.
Gotta go for now......will post more later!

hey Mark,

when does Dragway 42 close for the season ?

i was super siked to try my first attempt on the dragstrip that sunday we were all there, but as you know, Eleanor was giving me electrical problems that day.

having all you guys there to give me tips, really helped me to get over the fear, & want to try it.

now that Eleanor is fixxed, she is running super strong, & dad wants to see me, or someone else take her down the track this year if time still allows ! ? CHRIS
