I have an 86 ZL600 I purchased this summer. Carb number 4 leaks like crazy and after replacing the float needle and resetting the floats it still leaks. At this point I have purchased 4 rebuild kits (I figure if I'm going to go thru all that work I might as well do it right).
I also have the K&N Pod filters so that I can get rid of the stock air box. If I understand it correctly I will need to rejet the carbs for the additional air flow. Is the DynoJet Stage 3 the jet kit I need? Is this the best brand or is there another one I should be looking for.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Dynojet stage three is a good product, and yes you're correct. The additional airflow will require more fuel delivery. Depending on how many mods you have made or are planning to make, you may want to look at the factory pro kit. Dynojet stage three should be fine for K&N pods and aftermarket exhaust, but much more than that and you'll possibly need to change main jets again. Factory Pro seems to have a little better selection as far as heavy modification support parts, if you will. For instance, say you're going with pods now but you know you're going to change the exhaust before the end of the season. And then over the winter you want to change the cams and go to a big bore kit. Then Factory Pro would probably be your best bet. Hope this helps, and good luck with your project. :D Later,

P.S You'll also want to check out the CV carb tuning procedures in the tech article section of this site, very informative(Thanks Mark :D )

Thanks for the info. At this point I don't plan to modify anything else. The stock exhaust is in pretty good shape. Of course that is always subject to change......

I know the feeling. I'd love to upgrade mine, but hate the thought of losing those cool big a$$ tips. And your welcome, that's why we''re here! :D

Hello all,
I have the K&N stage 3 kit - been on the bike for 12 years or so with no problems. K&N pods and Accel coils and wires are the only other "motor" mods. Still got the stock exhaust on with no problems either. Later.

Inline filter may help. you may be getting dirt in the float valve causing it not to seal.

I remember awhile back someone else had the same problem with a carb leaking and after about the 3rd time of taking them off found a little piece of gunk stuck to the float hole that kept the needle from seating properly.

Pull the float needles and back flush that crap out of the fuel supply when you have the carbs out :!:
