Looks like its leaking from the bottom of the pump. I see the seals listed as 92055-1266 and 92055-1271. anything else i need to order while i have it apart.
How about coolant? I use regular prestone in my yamaha is there any reason why i shouldn't use it in my zl? It's rated for aluminum. I dont like the motorcycle stuff. For one it's pre-mixed. I like to flush mine with water and then add 1/2 the capacity in straight coolant then top it off with water. that way i know i have a 50/50 mix. whats your opinion?

Hi Mark, there is a seal on the drive portion of waterpump that you might want to go ahead and replace while you have it out. Gosupes had a couple of them that he was willing to let go. If you need to get in touch with him let me know as I have his email addy. The seal isn't shown on the part pics and the number isn't there either. If he doesn't have any more let me know and I can get one to you. I'll look at the extra one I have today to give you the numbers off it.
Cheers,
SD

Any anti-freeze/coolant that's rated for aluminum should be fine. I kinda like the premix myself because then I don't have to make two stops to get distilled water. But I have been accused of being anal from time to time. I like to let the engine run for about ten minutes after the t-stat opens, and then check the strength of the mix just to be sure.

Found it, the seal is made by a company called Corteco, All the numbers are not there but the first ones are AE259 as best I can see with the TC 12-28-7 under those numbers with (A) under that.

I think it was less than $3 for the 2 O-rings and the seal that I put on my waterpump so don't know what these guys are selling on ebay for $22.

I like to stick with the pre-mix antifreeze that is made for bikes, I can't remember who it was but I read that the MC stuff has extra lubrication for the water pump.

   it's leaking again. gonna pull it apart to see wtf is up. I suspect the seal(12x28x7tc) got sucked into the engine again, which raises another question. How is the upper breathers/air suction valve supposed to be blocked off or do they still need to breathe?

You mean it sucked the seal lip towards the inside of the engine? There shouldn't be any vacuum in the engine cavity. The air valve on top of the engine draws air into the exhaust stream and unless there is a crack that's allowing vacuum to build in the case, I don't know what's ging on.

Did you get your oil leak resolved Mark?
Mine has started leaking oil badly at the bottom of the water pump also. I'm curious to know if you have found the cause of your replacement seal going bad so quickly.
Here's what the TC seal looks like: http://www.amseal.com/Oil%20Seal.htm
and the 12x28x7tc is available here: http://www.amseal.com/362101.htm
Before I order a few, can someone please confirm this is the correct seal?
Thanks!

So far so good :!: No oil leak in the last couple of days.
I now have a lifetime supply of 12x28x7-TC seals (5). If anyone needs one just let me know.

no waiting either.

Good find. I should make a trip to the Depot! I didn't replace my O-ring (I know I should have). I only replaced the seal. It had hardened and come loose from it's resting place on the pump.
The O-ring should be 33mm but I'm not sure what thickness.

Plumbing isle.
I'm looking for the bearings,O rings and seal for my water pump if anyone has any idea where to purchase. The Bearings look good but I am leaking oil through the weep hole. Is the seal supposed to be connected to the outer piece inside the bearings. If so that could be my problem..Even the seal looks good and there isn't hardly any play in the impeller.

Thanks. There isn't any play as far as I can See but with this wonderful weather I'm eager to get out and ride. I'm having a friend of mine press it out tomorrow at his shop and hopefully find the seal and bearings he says he has the orings I need. Thanks a million and hopefully see ya at the vintage days. Thanks

PM me your address or e-mail me at gosupes@comcast.net I have one more seal laying around that you can have. I had to buy five when I did mine in order to meet the minimum dollar amount. The o-rings can be had at most any hardware store as others have posted. Just take yours along and match the size. I got one at a local Coast to Coast for less than a buck.
