My 600 has pod filters and standard exhaust. I've fitted a stage three kit, doing all that was recommended including installing the 130 jets and not the 134.

First thing I noticed was that I couldn't drop the tickover to less than 1200. Took the bike out and it ran pretty bad. Tickover was really stable but after 10 minutes it kept losing power and making a wierd sound, almost like pinking, as if it was overheating. I guessed the coolant might have got air in when I disconnect the carbs so I've refilled it but haven't tried it.

When I got back I checked the slow running mixture with a colortune and it was very rich, dynojet say three turns, I say 2 - 2.5. This appears to have sorted the high tickover problem.

Anyway several questions, anyone running a similar setup with the same jet size? Is it all ok?

I've adjusted the mixture on the two outside carbs but how on earth do you get to the screws for the middle two?

I don't have the original toolkit and the plug spanners I have are either too long or too short to get the the plugs out of the middle two cylinders, what do you guys use?

I don't seem to have any freeplay in the throttle, is this normal? I've checked all the routing and it couldn't be any straighter.

ive tried every tool except this one above. It looks like the only one that will work.
For now i just burn my hands using a small peice of rubber tubing with a #1 slotted bit stuck in one end and a screw in the other end so i can see how far it's turned.

Hello all,
Try this site for the adjusting tool. They have 2 or 3 different ones on this page:
http://www.sudco.com/tool.html

I have one like the motion pro model on that page and it seems to work pretty well - takes a little bit of practice to get used to it. You can usually find those out of about any motorcycle catalog like Dennis Kirk, Chapparel, Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse, etc. The search on google as gosupes stated turns up a bunch of sites with these. Hope that helps. Later.

FWIW the bike still isn't running, the jets are causing it to run far too rich. I'm guessing, for whatever reason, that it needs closer to a 115 at the moment but the kit has 90 and 130.

Pulled the pods off and the bike runs fine, not perfect but fine, definately revs more freely and feels like its pulling harder. I've got some Vance and Hines filters fitted to one of the other bikes that will fit so when I get the chance I'm going to try those on the ZL. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me at the moment but I guess I'll get there eventually.

your best bet is to call the manufacturer of your kit to verify correct jets for your application and mods. also check out the tuning guide our tech library.
