View Full Version : oil leak
I seem to have developed an oil leak at the O-ring on the gearshift selector shaft, but I have not been able to locate the O-ring on the parts diagrams for my bike (ZL1000). Does anyone know the part number for this O-ring, and could you describe the easiest way of changing it out.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks Mick

Hi
I had that problem with my ZL1000, It was the water pump seal that was shot.
Good luck
Guys, are you sure this oil is coming from the water pump. The oil I am seeing is dripping from the gear shift change shaft, there looks to be an O-ring on the shaft or in the cover.
Thanks Mick

Mick
It should be an oil seal for that shift shaft, part number 92049-1017 OIL SEAL,SD-8187
I'm replacing all of my seals and O-rings in this area. I think I paid about a buck for one of these. If you have trouble locating one, let me know and I can get one for you. Since you will be in this area, you might want to replace the seal and the O-ring for the waterpump as well.
OK Guys, Thanks for the help. Got the seal from local dealer (part No 92051-005 oil seal, TB13225.5) Gently collapsed old seal around the shaft carefully removed it and slipped the new one in. Took about 25 minutes, looks like the problem is fixed for now. Now I am ready for my pre rego, "blue slip" inspection next week. Wish me luck, then I will be on the road legally. No more unregistered test spins.
Cheers Mick
