Hi all.
I Know I havent posted on this board much but I have a few questions I'm asking myself while reading the ZL1000 supplement and the base manual (gpz900/zx900a). Was just wandering if any of you guys could help.
Most of us probably know that the Zl1000, Gpz/ZX900, Gpz1000rx,and concours Crankshaft, Conrods and Crank cases are the same. the main bearings are the same.
However, the conrod big end bearings are different Hmmm.

Eg ZL1000 big end bearings - Brown = 1.470 -1.475m/m Black = 1.475 - 1.480m/m Blue = 1.480 - 1.485m/m
The ZX/Gpz900 big end bearings are as follows - Brown = 1.475 - 1.480m/m Thats is the same as the Black ZL bearings. The Gpz/zx Black = 1.480 - 1.485m/m which is the same as the Blue ZL bearings. The ZX/Gpz Blue = 1.485 - 1.490m/m which is off the Zl scale.
The difference here is because of Con rod big end bearing insert - Crankpin clearance. On the Gpz/ZX900 being tighter 0.036m/m - 0.066m/m the ZL1000 is 0.046m/m - 0.067m/m.
Is this because the Gpz/ZX900 engine is built to rev higher? I am about to rebuild my engine with Wiseco pistons Gpz/ZX900 cylinderhead and Camshafts, A dynojet stage 3 with pods and modified exhaust.
Would building my crankshaft using the Gpz/ZX900 clearances work better for my engine?
If I cant figure this out I will just rebuild my crank to the ZL spec to be safe.
Anyway, Thanks in advance for any input.

Heard of this sort of thing before, but never really had a satisfactory answer. Could the differences relate to whether the bike is faired or unfaired, ie the temperature that the engine normally runs at? Plus some of these bikes have an oil cooler whereas on the ZL the oil cooler feed pipes are just blanked off, again maybe a temperature issue since the ZL has open engine casings.

Just ramblings but may be worth a thought.

Crankshaft cant be the same :nonono: on 1000´s the stroke is 58mm and on 900´s it is 55mm

Sorry your right the cranks are different but the journals are the same. Nevermind, think Ill go with the ZL bearing sizes anyway. Cheers for the thoughts guys
