Has anyone ever used or seen an adjustable timing advance for the ZL900? I thought I saw one on a site, but I can't seem to find it now, and it peaked my curiosity...Anyone??? :detective:
Thanks for the hepl in advance(no pun intended)...

Nevermind having to find it, I did, it's a FactoryPro product ($79.95us)...Anyone familiar, do they work well, or should I just go for a Dyna 2000 ($379.99us) :good luck: and be able to adjust electronically, PLUS, all the other stuff you can do??? I know there is a HUGE price difference, but, I don't wanna do things twice if I can avoid it...Weigh in with your opinions and let me know what you think, I am going to a Stage 3 with pods and SuperTrapp mufflers, in case you didn't know...
Thanks again!

I'm gonna go with Dyna if I do the big bore and stroker kit I keep threatening. You get the rev limiter, adjustable timing advance, and many other options, well worth the pricey cost of admision if you ask me.

SSDo you have any product links to the manufacturer of the kits?

Why yes, I do.
The stroker is a bit more complicated, there isn't a "kit" that I could find anywhere, but these guys will weld a stock crank and regrind it. You'll have to contact them on pricing and availability.

As for the big bore, it is in a kit form from Wiseco.

Hope this helps.

How long stroke you will use?
Are you going to grind it from 1000 or 900 axle and which/how long conrods (and are they same on 900 and 1000 or is the compression height of pistons different)?

To be quite honest, I'm not really sure LUMI. I think a 4mm stroke is the max without having to run a spacer plate, that's with 900 crank, rods, and pistons. If you were to play with rod lengths and such, the possibilities are endless. The increased stroke will definetly pump up the low end power, but the top speed of the engine will be reduced due to incresed centrifugal force on the crank. The big bore kit would improve power throughout without taking away from the top end speed as much, but you will have increased reciprocating mass.
And then there's the whole piston height and frame to rocker cover clearance issue. Too much stroke and you have to either run a shorter rod, or a spacer under the cylinder block. Ideally, you should run the longest rod you can for maximum torque. As I've stated earlier, that project will most likely be next winter. To run both, there are likely to be some custom parts and a lot of machining, and both are a little out of the budget right now.
Rest assured, I'll keep you posted and document everything for easy duplication if desired.

The Dyna 2000 (part # DDK24) should be a direct fit for the ZL900, although I cannot say that for sure, but it is made for the GPZ900....I think it would go right in, and upgrades to the ignition system or fuel delivery system would be a breeze with this piece in place, I am thinking also of converting to fuel injection, the system out of the Z1000 might work and should plug into the Dyna 2000...I think...But that is for next winter, I think...Anyone wanna chime in?

Hey MOAB,
i have found someone who does an adjustable timing advancer (manual not electronic) for the Eliminators - I emailed them to check and they said yes.
www.factorypro.com
They also do jet kits.
Hope this is of use.

Got my jet kit today, will post up their "Pink Sheet" numbers soon, it's a nice product.
moab...
Ok, may be a dumb question, what's a "Pink Sheet"?

Their Stage I and Stage III jet kits come with a sheet that will tell you what to do with the carb adjustments for your setup, it's really a nice deal, go to their website and all fo the info is there.

They have stuff for the ZL's there...

Hi out there:
I just bought a Factorypro kit (CRB-K17-1.0) for my ZL900, with the adjustable ignition advance (RTR-ADJ-KAW-4). (I use a D&D 4-1 exhaust system, by the way). Also, I bought a float height setting tool (TL-FLOATHI). By the way, MOAB, I saw that you have gotten some Factorypro stuff as well.
Here are my questions:
1) By how many degrees would you advance your ignition? (If indeed you did get the adjustable ignition advance.)
2) Have any of y'all ever used the float height setting tool that Factorypro sells?
3) Any suggestions as to proper float heghts? (I've seen a few different opinions as to alternatives from the "Service Manual" settings.)
I am gonna install mine in the next coupa days and want to make sure I do it right.
Thanks very much!
Aaron

Carbs are a pain,, sort of. I have some good advice for you.
1) Don't be in a hurry, plan on spending an entire day or weekend for a carb project.
2) Do not mix carb parts between carbs.
3) Verify idle/primary circuits are clear by spraying carb clean through them and watching it come out. (Safety glasses/Personal Protective Equipment(PPE))
4) Find a shim of some sort to prop carbs at proper angle so float height can be measured without compressing float needle spring. Verify this angle before calling float adjustments done!
5) Use of sealants such as Edelbrocks Gasgacinch work well in preventing vacuum leaks at carb to intake and intake to head connections.
6) Check operation of vacuum diaphragms before installing carbs.
7) Check operation of throttle/choke once installed before starting. We don't want to have the throttle stick wide open now do we!
8) Anytime the carbs come off the bike they should be syncronized. I recommend the Morgan Carbtune.
9) Last and not least double/triple check your work. Chances of something going wrong are 4 times likely to happen.
I have not used the float adjustment tool from them. So if your handy with a camera, we'd like you to document this for us :D
Float height is 17mm + or - .5mm I raised mine by setting it at 16.5mm. Doesn't look like they will go any higher.
Ignition can be advanced 4 or 5 degrees. I have a fixed 5 degrees in mine and run pump gas no problem.
We now have a link on the factory pro site. I've talked to Marc at factory pro before about tuning a friends zr7. He's a hell of a nice guy. I'm sure that if you have any issues they will help you get them sorted out. If you contact them again make sure you mention us.

Thanks, Mark! Info much appreciated.
I'll letcha know how the float gauge from Factorypro works out.
