GREAT NEWS GUYS!!!

Jeff,

We’d pleased to have ZL-OA join us on Club Row at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days 2008.

There is no cost for a club space. I will put you on the 2008 list, but please shoot me an e-mail in April or May, 2008.

Best regards,

Will

I'd love to meet up with you guys and add another Eli to the crowd, but the cost of getting it there would be a bit prohibitive.

Wuputt and I were talking about making next years event a week long. Most of you probably know that Norwalk Raceway is no longer the home of the IHRA. From what I understand there might be an IHRA 1/4 mi track built on site at the Mansfield Speedway. It would be cool as hell if we could do Mid-Ohio for the weekend, then thrash it out on test-n-tune days at the Dragstrip and then if ya want superbikes is the very next weekend! What ya all think?

zl900_moab

Well.....I dunno......I might break my bike....No, seriously, I have to see how time and money are doing...

zlMark

Looks likeMansfield Motorsports Park (http://mansfieldmotorsportsonline.com/dragstrip.asp) will be adding the 1/4mi dragstrip for sure.

"We want to be seen as a major league facility and I think these events will further position us as one of the premier short tracks in the country. With the drag strip, the IHRA World Nationals are the cornerstone of the schedule. We've even had a few inquiries for 2008 already, which has come as a surprise. It is something that has brought a lot of excitement with the Mansfield Motorsports Park staff, and hopefully it is something else that brings a lot of excitement to the region's motorsports fans."

Brush up on your RT's and launching! :bringiton: I better go on a diet :pale:

Thanks Mach, but I have to ask this , Do I have to stay with Mark again? And hey Chris I thought you were going to bring a motor home next year?

CHRIS
11-06-2007, 08:34 AM
yeah, was going to, but, i know dad will not stay the whole weekend. i cant drive the motorhome, & dually w/trailer both at the same time!, so i may be better off getting a room for the weekend ! my motorhome does not have a hitch to accomodate that size trailer, so the dually is a must !

maybe things will change by then, & i'll be bringing both, but i would like to have all bases covered just in case ! CHRIS :cool10:

01-01-2008, 08:07 AM
Hey paulfun, which pine grove in pa are you located? there are about 6 or 8 of them. I'm going to M/O, maybe we can coordinate something for the trip.

paulfun

I'm in the pine grove closest to the city of Pottsville, home of yuengling
beer. Would be glad to hook up and go. They told me you are in Mt Union the other day in chat room,is that the Mt U by 522 and 103. If so you look
to be about 2 hr. away.
I was thinking about putting the bikes in the truck and taking my little pop up camper so as not to have to waste money on a hotel room, need to spend that money now on a set of carbs.
Do you know if there are any camping facilites there?

CHRIS
01-01-2008, 11:13 AM
yes, there are camping facilities there ! i'm still waiting to hear back from the track on details ! CHRIS :cool10:

furchin
01-01-2008, 06:49 PM
Paulfun, yes you have the right location. been through pottsville before, but that was quite a while ago. we will have to hook up when the weather is better. How close are you to Hamburg? I ask because I have a daughter living in that area.

paulfun
01-01-2008, 07:43 PM
Hamburg is around 20 min. away, just a short run down rt61

wuputt
01-02-2008, 02:52 AM
There is camping at the racetrack however, it is based on first come first serve. Anotherwords, you need to be in line VERY early! I believe a camping spot is only available with a weekend pass bought well in advance.

There is several private campgrounds nearby but keep in mind they also fill up fast!

01-02-2008, 07:49 AM
Hey Jeff, for a small paltry fee in spendable US dollars and a couple cases of beer couldn't you let him use your back yard?

wuputt
01-02-2008, 12:54 PM
The missus (and homeowner) has been asked the same question! I am awaiting permission on this very subject! Already have a full house syndrome going on here!
If I owned the house, I would send her n the kids to a motel and it would be party central for zl-oa!

what goes on at m/o on friday besides the dirt track racing? is there swap meet friday? I couldn't tell from the website, maybe I missed it.
If you can only be there 2 days, which 2 are the best?
we might be joining in with 2 ZL's and 4 non-ZL's.

CHRIS
01-21-2008, 12:37 PM
yes, swapmeet is open of fri.
as far as best 2 days, i would say fri. & sat. sat. being the busiest !
sun. may be the best time to get deals at swapmeet, but you have to be
early, coz everyone starts pack everything up, to go home ! CHRIS

I will add that Eliminator parts are far and few between! The first couple years I spent hours rummaging through all the bits and never found many "useable" eliminator parts. Now I just go and spend my time in the club space! There have been a couple "rat" eli's for sale tho, usually baskets!

MachIV
03-16-2008, 07:42 PM
I don`t know about this year, diesel is $4.20 per gal.
I may have to find someone to share expenses
or convert the bus to run on cooking oil.
At 15 to 17 MPG it`s gonna be expensive just to get there.

lowlife
03-17-2008, 02:53 PM
Yeah, I'm planning ahead fo rfuel. Not sure where I can cut expenses. Room is spendy, fuel is spendy, food is.....etc

CHRIS
03-24-2008, 04:33 PM
well, thanks to machIV, i reserved my room on 3-24-08 at the super 8 motel booked for july 24 thru 26

i would like to add, that rooms are filling up fast, so if you have not reserved a room yet for M/O 2008, you'd better hurry, & do so quickly, or you'll be sleeping on the street ! :pale:

thanks again mach IV !

05-31-2008, 12:23 AM
Bill, If Chris doesn't drive back out there I will help with fuel a little for delivering the 9!

CHRIS
05-31-2008, 10:44 AM
Bill, If Chris doesn't drive back out there I will help with fuel a little for delivering the 9! vfrman, & i, are going back up to bill's soon, but we may have to rent a trailer to bring your 9 back. cant afford to drive dually that far, & vfrman's S-10 wont fit 2 bikes in it.

this was originally an idea to help bill out, so he would'nt have to rent a trailer to bring my zx-7, & your zl900 to M/O, & getting your zl900 to you a little quicker, thus saving a few $$$, either way, i think a trailer will need to be rented, but unsure if i pick up my bike if bill will still have to get trailer ? i dunno !!! my idea to help 2 of my friends out kinda backfired in my face. vfrman & i were talking about all this last night. he suggested, if one of you guys make arrangements for a u-haul, when we go back up there, we can put 1 bike in truck, & 1 in trailer . either way, with gas prices being so high, we're screwed !!! let me know how you guys want to proceed with this ????? trying to figure out a way to help all of us out at the same time !!! CHRIS

MachIV
05-31-2008, 11:32 AM
Renting a trailer one way is expensive, get it out there.
See if you can borrow one 1st.

zlMark
05-31-2008, 12:08 PM
Are you loading both bikes on the trailer?

MachIV
05-31-2008, 12:11 PM
One in the trailer, one in the bed.

zlMark
05-31-2008, 03:35 PM
Isn't there a dolly for bikes? That might be the best way since it's only a S-10. Not sure if I would want to load a bike and then a trailer w/bike on passenger car tires and a 1/2 ton suspension.

MachIV
05-31-2008, 04:40 PM
A small open flatbed garden trailer would be light enough.
Or a larger flatbed trailer both would fit on.
It`s easier to pull than carry.

CHRIS
06-01-2008, 10:39 PM
PROBLEM SOLVED !

I noticed last year out in the fields where the general paking was, that folks just picked spots along the back area and pitched tents. I'm half tempted to bring my air mattress since it takes 2 minutes to set up in the back of my pick-up. I have a ARE truck shell on the back with sliding windows with screens so its not bad sleeping back there in a pinch.

Yeah for me it would be like 9 hours total riding (round trip)....

I am thinking of maybe leaving in the evening on friday and maybe getting as far as Ft. Wayne, hit the bed and then back up around 6 to do the rest of the trip. Then spend the night and head back sunday...

Only problem I see is trying to get a hotel for only one night close by there...

I would like to go not to far from the house and gas isn't a prob but the costs of admission and camping are the hard part for me at least that and getting the bike to run right lol going to buy the new wires this week and unfortunately my bike does not have the proper plug ends that seal the holes when the bike is out side parked and raining i have to droop my leathers over the engine to keep from having probs :(

WillyD
07-08-2008, 08:44 AM
Lowlife...That would be cool....

As soon as I get my parts (hopefully this week) I am gonna put the ignition all back together and see if she is running right...If all is good with the bike, I will start getting all the stuff together...

Do you know if I can carry my gun over into Ohio? I have Indiana permit only, so I am assuming I cant...Not looking forward to pulling into Fort Wayne, IN late on a friday night without it...

Willy

07-08-2008, 12:21 PM
Ohio does not honor the Ind. permit. Next time get your Utah permit will be good for 39 states. Right now the Gov of Utah is trying to change that. Bugger!!!!

I have a hotel reserved for 3 nights. If I come down I will be changing that to 1 night providing they allow me to do so and sleeping under the stars for another, Just too **** expensive for 3 nights. If I come down it will be by myself with just my Eli and it looks like I can get 2 bikes in teh back of my Honda Ridgeline with some work so I can take the CB900 home Chris sold me. TTYL

Willy, I plan on leaving really early Satruday morning, not sure on my route yet.

I know it's a long haul for one day, but I just can't justify spending the night.

Still depends a lot on the weather too. I'll know more the closer it gets to time to go. I'll let you know if I figure something out. Possibly we can compromise and maybe at least meet up somehwere in Indiana and head over at the same time Willy. I'll try to get something planned out this weekend maybe. Later.

paulfun
07-09-2008, 02:23 AM
Most camp sites allow one small tent set up with your camper
I will have to call and verify this but if so, someone could set up a small tent and save the hotel charges.

07-09-2008, 02:50 PM
If you let me crash in there saturday night, I will pay the bill for that night...I dont care if I gotta sleep on the floor...

If I could make in friday night I would, but I am not sure if I can go that far...I am gonna be up at 2:45 am friday, work half a day, then do a golf outing and then my band plays an early show...I would be heading out after that...It should be about 4.5 hours for me to drive all the way there...That would put me there at like 3 am and I will have been up for 24 hours...

what's up at the club space- is it like a car show where you shoot the breeze & chat up the passers-by when you're not at the other events?
we're riding up so we'll be travelling lite - but we'll stop by a local grocery & pick up some dogs & suds to contribute if someones bringing a grill & cooler.

Lowlife, I have made the same trip you will about 40 times. Here are a couple hints to make your trip more enjoyable and save you some time. First and most important, even though I90 goes right through Chi town and looks like a quick blast through, DO NOT use it! Drop down at Rockford and jump on I80, I know it looks like it will add an hour to your trip, TRUST it will save you from sitting at an idle for 2 to 3 hours! Where I80 meets back with I90 east of Chicago is actually right in Willy's turf! I am sure that he will agree with me. The only time I will stay on I90 is if I will go through Chicago after 10pm, then it is much quicker than I80. It will also save you from several toll booths (where you will be sitting and overheating).
Next, Indiana troopers are in unmarked cars a lot, run with the flow and you will be ok! (long as the flow isn't doing 90!) I have seen them with up to 5 cars stopped making for one trooper getting his quota in a hurry!
Last, Ohio troopers are thick as thieves from Indiana border to Toledo, beware there!

Drive safe brothers!

For anyone coming to this event for the first time, pm me and I will give you my cell number. I can help with directions!
When you enter Mid Ohio gate #1 or 2, the parking attendants will try to wave you into the parking lot. DO NOT park there, it is at least a mile from the club site! Just go straight down the road (jogs to the left) over the bridge by turn #1, around the corner by main concession then make the first right turn onto gravel. This is the club area, just look for Mach's blue and white bus with the kamikazi flag on top and a herd of ELIMINATORS!

OK....Looks like I am gonna bring my bike in my truck...Sometime this week I am gonna get my bike loaded into the truck and tied down...My local towing company that I use all the time here at work is gonna assist me in getting the bike up in and loaded, tied down right...When I get there, can I drive the truck right to the site for us? I am sure someone will have a ramp we can use to get my bike down to the ground....I am looking forward to meeting everyone and I hope we can get my bike figured out and running like it should run...Then I can put it right in line there with the rest of the bada$$ ZL's....

The guys trailering their bikes to the track will not be able to park trucks in the club space! There is usually room to park them close by as long as security doesnt get nasty. The "infield" where the club space is is sposed to be for bikes only but like I said, if they don't say anything, or see you parking them you can get away with it. You can most definitly drive in to unload, then move it out.

Was just on the phone with Mark as the Goodyear Blimp went over my house! It will be in the area for MVD and Honda Supercycle weekend, which is next weekend. Unfortunately for you guys, that is when the Hotties are thick as thieves! Oh yes, I will be attending!!!

Well, I rode out for Saturday. Got there about 9am or so and had to leave (unfortunately) at around 5:30pm. Had a real good time, made it there without any rain, light rain came in just for a real short time while there - maybe 1/2 hour? - then got caught in a short downpour on the way home - by the way, don't skimp out on rain gear - I had a waterproof jacket on but had a cheapy rain suit from Wally World - jacket and pants. I stopped to put on the pants during the downpour, and by the time I hit the next gas stop, the pants were shredded - due to heat from the motor/exhaust or wind - not sure?. Anyway, enjoyed meeting with a quite a few members that I had not met before - Willyd, ZLfancypaint, lowlife, Paulfun, Elim8u, puttputt, not sure who else - bad memory - hahaha. Other than those members, Mark, Wuputt, Chris, Chris's dad, Rammy, Furchin, MachIV, were all there of course, there may have been others but you know - the memory thing - hahaha. You'll have to wait on them to get back for better pics. I only took a couple with my phone and they aren't that great. Looking forward to next year. Later.

All I can say is, what an amazing weekend! My son just left with his newly "aquired" ZL900! A truly sad moment for me, I don't get to see my boys near enough! He is without a doubt, going back to Minnesota with a lot of knowledge! I schooled him as did Paul and Jay! Everyone taught him something about his ne bike! Thanks guys!
I was soooo thrilled when I feasted my eyes on my latest evilbay purchase! I bought the bike to strip and part out, those of you that saw it know first hand why that ain't happening! It is cleaner than my ZL1000! I pulled the Trapps off to put on my ZL1000 and will refurbish the bike to give to my older son who couldn't make the trip. I will be delivering it in a few weeks so watch out Lowlife and Moab, there are gonna be two more ZL's close to you in MN! Hopefully, you can all get together with them and Kawtipper for a ride!
Back to MVD, so many great peeps! The club site was hopping at all times! The Kaw. Eliminators definitly got a lot of exposure over the weekend, there were people constantly stopping for pictures and to ask questions!

To Chris, you made quite an impact on my son and Ashley! They both can't wait to see you again! Thank you for the mobil workshop! What would we have done without it? All I can say is, "God Bless You" you are truly a friend to myself and this beloved club!

Jason (VFRMAN) thank you also for your help with the mobil workshop and your unselfish personality! Guys, Jason helped with every project that took place over the weekend! Even though he had his own bike to work on, he set it aside and assisted with others. So sorry for your lil drop, I know that had to cut deep!

Bill, great to see you again, quite a change from 5 years ago when you and I first met out there! Thank you so much for delivering my projects, I will for sure make it out to visit you on your turf!

Mark, ,,,,, you know, assmonkey! Who'da thunk it!

The rest of you that made it, what a great bunch! Kudo's to those that travelled such a long distance as a result of the love for these maniac machines!

Snakedoctor, the one-off patches are kickass! Thank you!

I will post pics later.

A special thanks to the culprit that brought the gift for Mark! I am still smiling from seeing his face when he discovered it!

The list just goes on and on, I like the statement about meeting peeps on a honda! How true!
I look forward to meeting with you all again in the future!

To those of you are jelous, you have good reason!

Chris...the workshop. Honestly didn't think you could pull it off. You and Jason(VFRMan) busted some ass on that one and it really shows. Thanks for being here/there!

Furchin.....The man who delivers.........Yuengling that is! Thanks!

Paulfun.....Just like your name says. great to meet you!

Lowlife.....I like the thought of having a year to think about revenge!

MachIV.....Good to see you again bro! I guess it wasn't you after all(HD Bell)

I can't beleive the turnout this year. We had Calvin(Elim8U) and Lois truck their beautiful 2900mi red zl900 all the way from Nebraska! Beth(ZLfancyPaint)and her husband, along with her brother John(JW) and his family from NC rode the whole way from NC to OH! Jarney, Rammy1500 and his son, Marty and his grandson, PutPut and his girl Ashley, WillyD, Gremlin and his buddy popped in on sunday.
You guys are true diehards! I think we had double the numbers of what the smaller clubs had show up!
We also had a guy from Columbus with a cherry 85 red zl900. One of the nicest red ones I have seen. Hope to see him join us soon.
What a weekend! I drank so much beer friday that I was still hungover on sunday
I do beleive I put an end to the accusations of the "Trailer Queen" that you all accused me of! The bike now has over 4400mi on it and is almost as dirty as when I bought it! That original K425 is getting thin too!

great pictures, looks like you all had a great time.makes me wish i lived in the usa!
maybe just maybe if i save save save i could come over next year minus the bike unless i win the lottery! it would be good if we could arrange something on that par in the uk for all us that live over here, perhaps i will start a thread on that subject!!!

Just got home today after an awesome ride home.

What a weekend at VMD -
So many ZL's in one place - it was one of the best weekends I've ever had.
I loved meeting all of you - what a fantastic bunch of ZL folks.

I can't say enough good things about all you guys -

ZLMark, Furchin, Wuputt & Paulfun - thanks a million for fixing my fuel leak problem -
what a place to have a petcock/hose problem, of all the luck to start leaking right in front of Martin!
I'm still thanking my lucky stars.
If that had happened anywhere else on that trip, it would have been the hugest headache.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The pictures are great - its nice to look at them after & remember how fun it was

And then, the rest of the show -
oh my god, how many vintage bikes can you look at and not get tired of looking at them?
I still don't know, 'cause it takes more than that!
