How about something like this on the site?

I'm not sure how you go about it, but I can message the admin on there and find out. If it doesn't show from the link it's basically a Google map of the world and the members can put their locations onto it. Will graphically show where people are.
For those worried about privacy/security. You don't have to put the marker exactly where your house is, you can choose where to put it, so just put it on your town.
