Is there any interest for a weekend meet in early to mid june?

Question is: How far are you willing to ride in a weekend?

I am game for a ride! Just need to set a date and plan for it! Kris has two kids graduating this year, one from high school and one from college. Have to work around the party dates! I am already going to miss the college ceremony! Kris didn't tell me the dates till after I had my Minn. trip planned!

As far as "how far am I willing to ride" probably 5-600 miles, makes for a **** long day but to meet up with the zl-oa brudda's, I am on it!

lowlife

How far am I willing to ride? Well probably quite aways considering the truck and all!

Hell I might even pick up the CB and ride back with you. Just another option

Well let's see. So far we have people from Elgin, MN and Mansfield, OH willing to meet. One even willing to go 500 miles...

Chicago, IL is 341 miles from Elgin, 352 miles from Mansfield, 248 miles from Toledo.

Me, Willy, and I think 2 other guys live in indiana, I'm sure they would all go seeing as chicago is a hop skip and a short ride for us.

In fact I live right off of the highway/toll rd in NW indiana, so those coming from indiana or ohio could all meet at I-65 and ride in to chicago from there together as a group...

Just a suggestion :)

Ps. If lowlife is willing to make a longer trip then everyone else, South Bend or Ft. Wayne Indiana are large cities in route, about 200 miles closer than Chicago for the ohio guys. South Bend is a nice city with good scenery to ride.

Did you guys know that Jarney lives on a farm in Indiana and lives almost exactly 1/2 way between Pottsville PA and Austin MN?

Jarney
04-29-2008, 08:21 PM
Not really a farm, just a few (a little over 3) acres of land. Farm fields mostly around me but a row of houses on a side road at the north edge of my property. I do however live right on the frickin' highway. All are welcome to stop in/stop by/camp out/hang out/whatever if this would be a good meeting place. Plenty of room to pitch a tent or stay in the barn if weather is bad, couple of small spare rooms in the house too. Here's a pic of the property (Red Triangle). The new barn/workshop isn't in the pic, it's directly south of the house. Later.

Oh yeah, there's also a drive in theater just behind me too.

Dates that won'r work for me. Fathers day I have my city celebration, gotta be there. The last weekend in June is my daughters graduation. The 4th of July my worker needs this weekend off. I'm thinkin that if this flies that I will Amtrak down and ride the CB 900 with you guys and end up eventually going home from whereever. My ZL would be available for Andrew this way he can afford to ride and not stop every 50 miles for fuel.

Let's iron out the dates so lowlife can go and we will caravan.....Nice place, Jarney!

Keep me posted!

Closing off the highway is definite no. The cops like to hang out in the median in front of my house because just to the south is I-70 and I-40 and a couple of truck stops. So if you head this way, watch your speed........Later.

The last time I was in Indiana I was visiting a friend in Bloomington. We went on a date with two chicks to a "drive-in" south of Bloomington. It turned out to be a X-rated drive-in and was playing a Johnny Wadd triple feature....That was the most bizarre theater I've ever been to. The concession stand didn't have much to eat but you could buy any flavor of body oils you wanted and much more!

I live in New Castle, Indiana. If you use google, just look for the intersection of State Road 3 and Interstate 70 - I'm about 1/4 mile north of that, right on State Road 3, west side of the road. I'm about 40 miles or so East of Indianapolis, 20 miles South of Muncie, 20 miles South East of Anderson......Give or take......Later.

OK guys, the date will be the weekend of 6/28-6/29. Hope you all can make it! I think it would be cool to do a nice weekend trip and have a few beers with my fellow ZL Owners. I just plan on riding out early saturday, tent over night, and ride back on sunday. I don't plan on bringing my girl but that is subject to change, she likes to ride but doesn't care for the extreme amount of motorcycle BS that will thick in the air

My plan is to leave just before sunrise, meet up with wuputt and whoever else is riding out with us. Probably take RT30 and just enjoy the ride.

i'm waiting to hear back from lowlife! if he is interested in driving his truck to jarney's, we can haul his cb900c to him in trailer, & he can take it home from there. if not, i may not bring dually & trailer along. i do not think we'll need it, & besides, its still being fitted for things to work on bikes at M/O we'll see ! No problem guys, I'm looking forward to it. I think I may have a spare tent in the attic I'll search for this weekend in case it's needed and I've got a small pile of tree limbs for a small bonfire - actually I've got some more to get cut up some time - should be plenty to get us through most of the night though. Let's just hope and pray the weather holds out for us. Later.

If you get on 36 and decide you're burnt out and just want to get there, instead of turning on 103, which will "T" into Broad Street, stay on 36 and it will bring you to 3 which is the road you have to take South to get to my place anyway - the intersection is just before a little town called Mount Summit (highest point in Indiana - dumb Hoosier fact). 103 is 40mph, a little twisty, not a bad road. 3 is a 4 lane highway, 60mph until you hit New Castle. I'm another 6-8 miles south of New Castle on 3. South of New Castle the speed limit is 45mph then 55mph. Just an option. Later.

If any one over this way wants to meet up,I know there are a few guys on here just a little south of me.I will probably load mine in the truck, for the trip, but if some guys want'd to ride that would be cool also.I just don't feel comfortable going on a 376 mile ride alone.I also have a large trailer if some guys want'd to haul theres over,x-cab truck too.I'm looking forward to meeting you guys.

Hey guys, been having a ton of trouble with my ISP lately - it's about dead - so haven't been on much.

Anyway, Mark mentioned we should probably see what everyone wants to do about food and beverages. There's really no good place to go to eat that serves alcohol around New Castle - and with all the police that run up and down the highway to my house it might not be a good idea to go anywhere to have a drink - I imagine we would attract some attention being the hooligans that you all are, running down the highway after a few drinks, all of us on Eliminators - hahaha, and I don't own a grill or cook so that's out - hahaha. Unless you want dogs over a bonfire....hahaha. Maybe post up what you like to drink or ideas for food, maybe order some pizzas? Just an idea, post up some ideas.....Later.

CHRIS

Jarney
06-15-2008, 11:25 AM
On a Saturday night - unfortunately yeah - depends on the weekend though I guess. Sometimes they hang out in the median for several reasons - the interstates are 1 and 5 miles from my house and there's usually a crowd at the drive-in movies - they catch several drinkin' and drivin' after the movies are over. Hopefully there won't be any good movies playing that weekend so there won't be much of a crowd. Later.

Well the benefit is now cancelled (my band)....So I am free to go...The only thing now is if I can get my bike running to go.....I gotta tear into it and I am dependant on the weather because I got no shelter where I live and no way to trailer it somewhere else...

Congratz on getting free for the weekend, I hope no one died for you to get it. (benifit canceled?)

At any rate, If I knew anything mecanical I'd be at your house helping. Last time my carbs went wack I bit the bullet and took them to 'thomas's kaw' on rt 6.

I don't have a trailor or a garage either, I live in an apartment. Otherwise i'd let you work on it here.

WillyD
06-16-2008, 08:33 AM
The benefit was just very unorganized and most of it fell apart....

I am looking at weather for the rest of the week and it looks good...So today when I get home from work, the carbs are coming off...I should be able to have them off in 30-45 minutes...That part I am not worried about...The pulling them apart and doodling inside is what has me worried...I have been turning wrenches since 1986 but have always had bad luck with carbs and stuff...Hopefully I can pull them apart and see them gunked up with stuff..Then I can clean them and put back together....I will keep you posted...

Mark...

I bought some tools yesterday and today when I get home I am going to pull these carbs...While I have them off I am thinking about jetting back to stock. According to Rick it is just a matter of unscrewing the jets and putting the stock jets in...As far as I know nothing else would have to be done on adjust of the carbs...I have the factory air box but I would have to get two new chrome covers to put on...Guess I could ride without covers untill I get some...I dunno...As far as the engine I would rather just have it stock anyway. I think it will work best in all conditions as far as starting and riding.....but we will see

Just a side note to mention. Anyone coming out that's planning on camping outside or for when we're just hanging around outside - bring your favorite bug repellent. Jarney, I found the best bug repellant. Buy a bottle of Listerine, mix with water at 3 to 1, spray around the yard! I swear it worked like magic at the grad. party. Everyone was getting ate up until I sprayed it around, everyone commented about it! Besides that you can shoot some in Marks mouth!

I am ready to roll! The weather is gonna be a gamble as usual. H ell I took the bike out for a test run after doing the starter tensioner and got about 7 miles out of town and got hit by rain. Bad part was there was blue skies when I left! I am more worried about Mark's back! Riding can make a sore back miserable real fast, although I have had a sore back at times and riding cures it. It all depends on what the problem is. I told Mark I would snag a few of Kris' perks so he can at least tolerate it if it gets real bad! My worst problem is getting off work at 1am and trying to get to sleep so I can be up when Mark gets here! Like a kid waiting to go on a fishing trip with his Dad!

I think we should get there early evening, depends on the old mans back and the weather!

Chris, what route are you taking? Maybe if you gave Willy your cell number in case he has probs you could head a bit east and rescue him?

I have the bike all loaded and ready, just need to remember the toothbrush in the morning!

When I get off work in about an hour I am gonna go home and get the bike and bring it back here to work...I am gonna try to replace the plug wires and pull the connectors out of the boots and check and clean them and reassemble them....I really wanna make this happen and get down there...

If I am running stock air box and 127.5 jets (as Mark is) and my pilots are clean and my mixture screws are about 2 1/4 out, then I dont believe it is fuel or carburation and that leads me to look at ignition...I know I am running rich (or at least not burning all of the fuel mixture correctly as I checked yesterday and I got 21 mpg)...The ends of the mufflers are kinda sooty (rich) and I just dont see me being that far of with the carbs set as they are...

Would also like jarneys number for when I get close to guide me there....

I am ready to roll!
I stopped in at my buddies Renegade Classics shop this afternoon to pick up a new shield for my helmet. I ended up leaving with a new riding jacket! He gave me a good price on it. I think this one will last me for a long time! It is a Revolution Gear, waterproof, two zip out liners, removeable armor, removeable panels on the outside for really hot days. I hope it wears as good as it feels and looks. It was half the price of the First Gear jacket I was planning on buying.

Well if I make it, it may be later....I found the problem with my bike...

You know I said it felt low on power.....

The freakin thing is running on 3 cylinders...I pulled it around the back to my porch to check it out...I was worried about plug wires/ignition....I fired up the bike on the porch. (now mind you I had just started the bike and drove it around the back, no choke, fired up sweet) and I decided while the bike was running to pull #4 plug wire off....NO CHANGE...I did it several times and it did not change....I pulled #1 and big change....I pulled the wire out and pulled the boot apart and put it all back together...I figured this must be the wire I pulled apart when I was taking it apart last weekend...Put it back together...no change..

Drove down the street to my buddies bodyshop and we checked it out...When we put his pocket air coupler in and grounded it...good spark...pulled the plug and it was fouled..Put his compression tester on it...Low compression...I might have a valve not seating...could be a mistake I made adj valves...no oil comin from the cyl....

I am here to tell you that this thing pulls hard and will do 90 mph without sweating...When I get this straight it should pull my arms off...I hope it is just adj and not a valve problem.

Gonna let her cool down and get out there first thing in the morning and tear into it...I may make it down there as I am only a little over 2 hours away...

I had a great time visiting with Jarney and Mark! Even with the "scattered T storms" we made it over there and back home without getting too soaked.I have to say, anyone who can top Jarneys shop is way up on the "idol" list for me! Totally awesome is all i can say about it. If I can ever have a shop like that before I die I will definitly go with a big azz smile on my face!
For those of you who had the opportunity to meet or chat with Rocky, from the KERA days, we stopped in and visited with him. He is doing well, has not changed a bit! He had to sell his beloved Eliminator but swears he will get another when the opportunity presents itself.
A big thanks to Jarney, for his hospitality! To those of you who didn't make it, NANABOOBOO, you missed out!!

I was so bummed out not to be able to go....I got a semi dead hole on the ZL (#4)...after talking to prostreet this morning I am leaning towards me having a bent valve...I think it was not right when I bought this thing and I was looking at fuel the whole time...

At idle, I can pull #4 plug off and cannot detect a difference in how bike runs...Pull #1...big difference...Did comp test on #4 cyl....60 psi is max....manual says like 134-206 psi is usable range...sat morning I pulled it all apart to recheck my valve adj. I readjusted even though I though it was ok...I fugured I had gotten then too tight and had an exhaust valve hanging open, but no such luck...Pulled spark boot all apart and got that all like it should....getting spark, but with low compression it is not doing like it should...dumping alot of gas in the exhaust (#4 pipe is getting bronze/brownish) and that is giving me the hesitation and popping and sputter....

Next step is pulling the head...gonna take to brother-in-laws garage and pull it off...

Wuputt, Jarney and I. I did get to meet the infamous Rocky from back in the KERA days and couple of Jarney's friends one with a nice zl900. Boy talk about a character,, Rocky is something else! Hope to see him get another zl or join us at VMD sometime. We were standing around shooting the bull in the shop and a zl900 riding with a v-max rode by, that kinda surprised me.

I didn't get much for pics,, I know I'm such a loser(not as bad as Moab)

We made it to the OH/IN border without getting wet, if we hadn't stopped for a beer we would have made it all the way without rain. First time we got hit we pulled over under a tree and let it pass. Once we drove off we only drove a mile before the roads were dry,,lol we should have just drove through it! But we had to stop and get gas at the flying saucer and thats where it let loose. So we hung out and had some so called chili...Alton Brown would have been flinging boogers mad over the crappy chili we had.

Oh and I got to actually see a bearded lady. I so wanted to get a snapshot of her but I was afraid she would kick my ass!

Hey guys,
Glad you made it here and back with no major issues other than a little rain. Great pics guys, now I see what you had to ride through to get here - hahaha. I also had a great time, just wish that the weather would have been better. I have a few pics I'll try to post this weekend or whenever I can get my isp to work half way decent too.

Maybe we can try again this fall sometime. Later.
