Hi all, I am new to this site (and female) so please be gentle!!
I have just bought a 1991 Eliminator 250cc, aparently she is a Canadian import.
I love her, she looks and sounds fantastic but she needs new carbs. I cant seem to find them anywhere!
HELP PLEASE.

Welcome amanda! Eliminator...gentle,hmm doesnt fit in the same post. Congrats on your bike! I'm sure we can find or direct you towardz what you need. Often if you can not find the exact match there are other carbs that will do the trick.

I don't have it up and running, but there is a zedder x-reference guide that should be able to tell you what other bikes share the same carbs as you have. Do you have any of the service or repair manuals? They should tell you what you have. If not take a look at the actual carbs themselves and they should have stamp on them somewhere with the brand name (likely something like Mikuni or Keihen). Also, are you sure that you actually need new carbs? are they missing or just in need of a good cleaning? There is a reputable cleaning service provided by a fellow named Rick. Look in the Parts forum for a sticky at the top that will give you all his info plus some feedback about his work. Also if you only need some of the parts for the carbs then yo often basic carb rebuild kits and/or other parts on ebay. Best bet is to use the Ebay search engine on the home page and modify it slightly if you need to. First thing though should be to clarify a little about exactly what you mean by needing new carbs and then people can try to help you out from there. Hope some of this helps. I am not too familiar with this model yet but ya gotta learn sometime. Congrats on the purchase, often the Canadian models will run a little more powerful due lessened restrictions in the pollution area. Enjoy

Like Richard said , wickedzl900 offers a carb cleaning service and has done an awful lot for our group. I have heard nothing but excellent feedback.

If I have time later tonight I'll try cross-reference those carbs for ya.

The USA site show a 250 HS for 1991, so i'll assume that is what you have. I would think they would be the same anyways. Thanks for filling in your profile, maybe someone over there who is close by can lend a hand.

Those are the bikes that Kawasaki says uses the same carbs, not much to choose from. The zedder x-ref comes up with less models. So you are looking for carbs off a 88-94 EL250, that is what fits. Why do they need replaced?

I am in UK and the supplier you sugested does not ship abroad!
The mechanic is going to try the idea of swapping the plugs tonight, he says it is only firing on one carb and the idle adjustment bottom screw has been glued / stuck in place so there is no adjustment. I cant see any other way. I have a quote for a right hand carb in UK it is approx £450.00 plus fitting etc! The bike only cost me £200.

Hi,
thanks to you all for your ideas about the carbs, I have managed to replace the spark plugs and do some adjustments and now the bike is ticking over and is PULLING yippee.
I have also sourced a secondhand carbs from a fantastic site which contacts nationwide UK breaker yards!:razz:

Sorry, forgot to say, she still has a flat spot (delay) when accelerating, mechanic says it is still worth replacing the carbs ? what do you all think ?

Needs a good dose of sea-foam or equivalent.

The sea-foam treatment courtesy of the Venture Riders

I run a 50/50 mix of sea-foam and gas from a auxilary tank to just get the mixture into the carbs and combustion chamber. I start with the engine warmed up already because the bike won't start with that much sea-foam cold. Rev through the rpm ranges to get it sucked into the engine real good. Run it up high rpm then hit the kill switch with the throttle WFO (all the way open) so that it stalls and pulls a bunch of fuel in without burning it. Let soak over-night. Drain carbs, replace plugs if not new, and add fresh gas......Easy as Pie!

I just checked and they do list spares for the EL Eliminator 250, they are also UK based but unfortuantly nothing on carbs.
