Hello guys, just bought 4 K & N air filters for my 1985 zl900, the carbs are off at the moment due to replacing a split diagram on one carb, anyway do i have to re jet or alter the mixtures to use the new air filters , it would be aesier to make any adjustments whilst the carbs are off so just trying to save some hassle here, any help would be great the rest of the engine is standard including cans,
Regards PHILL

There's a cv carb tuning guide in the tech section. That will help alot

Mark is right. Bacchus and a few others have recommended the factorypro kit in order to make jetting easier, but it is only partially helpful. you will still need to do minor tunings in order to get the settings just right for your bike. Everything changes depending on just what you use on your bike (pipe choice, timing advancer, fuel octanes etc.). I meant to say by this that you will be best to get the jets to where you think they ar running the best, and then get your bike on a dyno. Unless someone with a setup just like yours chimes in, that is my best advice. Personally I can't help you out as I am not a big pro with the carbs, plus both of my bikes are at the opposite extremes of where yours is and therefore anything recommendations I might have for you are WRT my bikes are fairly useless.

phil you do have to rejet! i was having trouble getting separate bigger jets when i got my k&n pods so i ended up getting the dyno jet kit,i am using size 136 and it works a treat! the only thing is dence fog and heavy rain, the bike now does'nt like it.and one other thing make sure you get those pods tight as they will fall off! take it from me i lost one of them but lucky i found it!

Hello all, i have just lealised that inside the standard airbox is a standard shaped air filter but its a K &N type just 1 peices and not 4 seperate ones, and now wondering if i am lucky that the carbs have been already jetted for a K &N filter although a single air filter,
what is the standard size just guys, and i will have a look and see whats in mine,
fingers are all crossed here,
but guess 4 singles pods will allow more air flow than a single inside an airbox,
any help on standard jets would be great,
thanks for the replies so far guys
Kind regards Phill UK

Can you start me out by outlining what air pods your using, what other specific settings for using instead of OEM box?

what about your exhaust system??? stock or no?

I know the factory pro kit's recomendation for carb setup was almost spot on....

My recomendation is to install the kit as specified by the instructions and then go see dyno guy to make sure it is correct for your bike and location.
dont strees it...just install it and go see the guy with the gear to confirm proper set up for you..

also would recomend that you do not drill the slides....
