Hey guys,

Talked to this guy on the phone, his name is Dana. He does custon repaints and color matching and specializes in the KZ's. I found his ad on Craigslist and gave him a shout. He is familiar with the ZL but hasn't done one. He will not sell paint either. But he will properly match and repaint for a competetive price.

Here is his site:

here is the parts listed on CL that got my attention:

We will see him at VMD this summer. Hopefully he'll stop by and visit with us.

I am still looking to redo my tank on the red bike. I like the look of that guys work, but I would have to ship parts down to him and crossing the border might drive the cost up past what I can do. The tank is currently a 9.5/10 so I would probably experiment on a spare tank that I have before I go and mess with the one I have now.

You comin to VMD this year?

I certainly hope so. I am meeting with one of my professors tomorrow regarding a summer position in his lab. Right now I am trying to solidify my work options a bit before I can plan any trips. Looking forward to the possibility of making in down there this year.

When I did mine,I took The rear fender and had it scanned. It came back as a Audi factory color red with a #2 fade.It is a very good match.I'll see if my brother still has the paint code.

Recent talk of paint codes brought this thread up. If someone is looking for top notch restoration this would be the way to go, especially for the Red ZL900. The red ZL1000 one might get by with the colorite red for the concours or voyager.
