Explain a "D plate" I assume Japan puts restrictors in to hold down speed? Maybe some pics if no one knows. I can only presume you will need to rejet to original specs or so if/when proceedure is finished.

d plate is just something to say what year it is made in. if it only hits upto 88mph it is defo restricted in some way, mine would hit 100mph for sure. But they dont come restricted from the factory do they???

i never seen ZL400 from Japan, that used in school, and bikes from schools are not restricted
my ZL400 was "restricted" to 140 kmph (87,5 mph), but when i flew in tank HI-GEAR carburator cleaner it become show more than 180 kmph :laughing7:

Alot off german models, are restricted by installing a plate between the carbs, and the head, maybe yours is the same???

If it is indeed restricted, would it then be something in the speedo that kills it at a preset speed.
If it was me I would try running the bike with the speedo disconected and have a friend run alongside to check and see if its going faster or not.
If so just swith spedo with an unrestricted model.
If I remember correctly somone on here had thier speedometer apart and found some kind of thing in it that turns on a speed light or something thats not on the US models. I think its the white headlight indicator bulb on us models not sure. Anyway if it works to turn on a bulb it will work to kill an ignition at a set speed as well.

The 400 and 750 were Sold in Japan Only ???????? Think they were called "GREY IMPORTS" Dont know what that means BUT the 600, 900 and 1000 were all US Bikes, BUT theres also a French Model and a Few others which were Slightly Different , mostly the Sissy bar Will start going through my Papers again and Post them here, Later Rocky:devil:
