Has anyone installed a DJ Stage 1 on a 1000?

I suppose the instructions included will get me close, but if anyone has any experience that will save me some fiddling/tweaking/headaches I'd appreciate it.

For aftermarket exhaust (I have SuperTrapps with 8(?) discs, stock airbox with K&N replacement filter) it says:

DJ126 main
3rd groove on the needle with 2 washers
2 turns out on mixture screw
Enlarge slide lift hole(?) with included drill bit(?)

Also in the kit are DJ122 for Stage 1 and DJ136 and 140 for Stage 3.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Kawboy, Had a Stage 3 on my 1000, Started with a Stage 1 and did NOTHING for Performance???? With the Trapps on yours Might as well do the Stage 3, Get Rid of the Airbox and go with the Pod Filters[ you will also have to get the Crankcase filter] You can keep the Stock Covers to keep the stock look, 138 works better than the 140 main jets, Later Rocky

Offset hole in the metal body of the diaphram is the lift hole..In the kit there is a drill bit..They want you to drill that hole out with that bit. This is not the center hole where the needle rides in..It is a hole where air travels through to move the diaphram...

Yes, understand.
I was questioning whether to do it or not.
Others have said not to do it.

My exp. found that drilling this lift hole will ruin the bottom end on the 900. Do your research on drilling the slide holes. Not easily un-done

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for - other's experience. If it ruins the bottom-end, then I don't want to do it.

Any others as far as the recommended DJ126/2 turns out/3rd groove for stage 1?

I really don't want to go to pods. I like the look, but . . .

I run the 128's, single washer under the clip with a K&N panel filter and a 4 degree ignition advance plate, all from dale walker. no slide hole drilling. None needed unless you want more on the top end. Definate seat of the pants improvement and improved throttle response. Very happy with the results.

I have yet to pull my side cover off and check for an advancer, but I believe I have one...When I bought my 900 it had stage 3, F1 mufflers and pods...Not sure if it is related, but it was a 8itch to start 50 degrees or less..I had Rick redo my carbs...he put stock diaphrams in it (mine were drilled) and put stock needles back in...Jetted to 135 (main) and away I went...I think I had smoother all around throttle response, but still hard cold start (very hard)...I pulled carbs (after various problems, dirt, rust in the tank, bad gas, etc) and put airbox back on...Now the bike runs great..I have 127.5 jets and .019 shim under the needles...

The PODS for me were a PITA...
