Wave Rotors & grinding of bolts?

Good going.
Well then I guess if its good enough for some of the guys, doing this mod its good enough for me. I dont have a problem taking these bolts to a machine shop with the rotor and fine tuning these babies down. Living on the southside of chicago there are alot of places that will do that, or if you got a friend that is a machinist, he could do that on his spare time and have these bolts come out cleaner then a babies bottom after its wiped. It might cost you a six pack, LOL.
Anyways I hope I didn't upset to many people by inquiring about this. If I did, I want to genuinely apologize for anyones hurt feelings. Thanks gents, now get out there and ride.................

We all have to remember that sometimes when we can only type and not have our expressions or tone of voice heard we can easily be taken out of context! :no-no-no:

This has happend to me on a few ocaisions and surely it will happen again. If only we could remember to use the smileys when we think the subject matter might be taken a little out of context.

I do understand the concerns some folks have with safety but if you really look closely at the bolts and the fit they should be all right with a little bit ground off. Dont overheat the bolts when grinding and if you are really concerned make your relief in the rim and just turn the bolt head down enuff to fit into the countersink on the rotor.

I do have a set of aftermarket bolts here that just might work on the rear! I will trry them this weekend and ensure they work before suggesting them to anyone.

ha ha ha I got a friend thats knows a friend that knows another friend that is a machinist that will throw them bolts on a lathe and grind them babies down to specs and make them look as if they were store bought. Polished up and all. So thanks but I got my contacts that are pretty good with them micrometers. Might be a 12 pack a beer now. Some of that October Fest beer by Samuel Adams mmmmmmmmmmmmmm beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer and a brats . Over and Out to to grill to get started ha ha ha
 
Ok we got the beer and brats moving right along with the Temptations music. neighbors are looking over the fence wondering "whats going on" , but thats from teddy Pendegrass that will be the next selection, later people foods about ready........................

Cool, a surprise? Normally I hate surprises, but I'm looking forward to this one - hahaha. It's raining for the next few days and temps are pretty darn cold for bike riding (working the night shift in the 50 degree area) so it's going to be hard to get the brakes broke in with the crappy fall weather coming. Bring back the heat I say - hahaha. Later.
 
Well here is a little more mud for the muddy water. I was looking for other brake parts when I came across these rotors.

They would probably be from the same Chineese manufacturer, but there is no bolt recess, and it says for the rear. they
also have a front rotor listed which has the bolt recess. Probably better to go with out the recess all round. Who knows just
posting up for comment.

Are there different manufacturers of the same part? Also, is this isolated to the wave rotors...I'm thinking about going ebc, but sheesh the price on those is out of my ballpark right now. Good luck with these, they do look good. Wondering about going to one of those specialty stores that sells nothing but bolts and the like. Good luck!

Wonder if this is the same manufacturer of the ones that are causing some issues.....You have to wonder why some are experiencing issues, while others are not. EBC is one expensive part, but I guess if they offer significantly more stopping power, I guess it would be worth it....especially if it could cost you your life.

The wave rotors, due they offer significantly more stopping power?
 
Little more than a year ago I bought the EBC pads & front wave rotors and I feel a better stopping power. Is it 10 or 20 or 30 per cent better? I don't know but its better.
 
I have the wave on the rear for a year now, i just placed an order fri for the 2 front!!!!:headbang I cant say if it helped with the rear,since the po had ran the rear pads metal 2 metal and screwed up the rotor!! But i WILL find out how the front work!!!:thumbsup:
 
So has it been determined which ZL1000 bolts are affected? Or if the Chinese wave rotors from Wuxi Thai-Racing Trade Co., Ltd have recessed holes or a flat surface.
I'd think after 2 years of the original post a solution must have been found so the bolts don't need to be ground down. I'm pretty sure some said they bolted right up and others had to grind the bolts. I haven't really seen any other wave rotors other than the Chinese ones. If they work, that's cool with me. The 3 rotors for $180 at http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fron...OR-900-85-87-1000-86-90-ZX1100/711786458.html sounds like an awesome deal. I'm a perfectionist and want that fit and finish with the bolts.

The head of the bolts will have to be ground down for all bikes using the wave rotors you get from the zl store. The SHANK of the bolts is what is iffy - some bikes need to be ground down and others do not and bolt right up - no one has come up with any other solution or reason why this happens. There's not a high demand for these and not many have bought them or had the problems I did so you won't find much more info on them than what has already been posted. Later.
 
Well thanks. At least I know I don't really need to do hours of research then. Luckily I have a buddy who is a very meticulous machinist and could fit them perfectly. Not a bad deal if that's all that needs to be done. I actually had the EBC Pro Lites ordered because my dealer said that's all there was for the ZL1000. Does anyone know if the wave rotors are better performing and lighter than the EBCs? Or if wave rotors are more for the modern superbike look?

Since the zinc plating is removed from the edge, you'll have to paint/coat the bolts to prevent rust.

There won't be much, if any, difference between one stainless steel disc and another. Pad material will be where you get your braking improvement.

Stainless brake hoses are cool too. If you still have the old original rubber hoses, you may notice a firmer feel at the lever, but again no real improvement in stopping power.
