Hello guys,

I just finished cleaning up the stock 30mm Keihin carbs that came with my 1989 ZL 400 SE bike (#85 Main jets). It was pretty easy to remove the carbs, however, refitting them is so damn complicated and time consuming.

Further more, I noticed that the air box rubber intake hoses/gaskets are all in pretty bad shape. The previous owner tried to refurbish them, but he didn't do a good job.

I checked a lot of threads to find more info on the pod conversion subject and now I am sure that I will go forward with the conversion and of course I will also increase the jets size to #105.

The only piece of information I'm missing out is what pods should I go for. I see that most of you are using K&N filters, perhaps you can help me with the part number I should order (I do not exclude sporting Uni pods).

The Zl 600 and Zl 400 models share the same 30mm Keihin carbs, the only difference being the stock Main jets size (#90 vs #85), so probably same pod filters would work on both.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you Jarney for the quick reply.

The K&N RC-1824 pods were on my short list, however, they are pretty pricey on knfilters.com. Couldn't find any cheaper ones from a respectable seller.

I'm not sure about the other two suggestions. One is a no-name filter and the other, well.. I've never had the chance to interact with Ramair filters or read about them on ZLs. Perhaps Uni filters are more popular cause they are cheaper.

No offense but I am keen on getting help from someone with first hand experience in pod converting ZL 400/600 motorcycle.

No problem, one other option is you might do a search through the Members List on this site and look for the most active zl400 owners, check their profiles, and send them a private message, they may be able to help. Not sure if the link below will work right but, here's the list of zl400 owners sorted by their last activity on the site - if it works. You may have to copy and paste it in your browser. Good luck. Later.

Thanks for the tip R.J. Unfortunately there isn't enough space between the carbs to add a second layer over the filters, even the K&N filters are a bugger to get in there.

:hello: The Outerwears are paper thin. If you get the correct size they should work. They fit snug like a good pair of gloves.
