fan

85 zl900..my radiator fan doesn't come on during or after a ride? How do I check it?

bought this bike a few months ago and its always had the temp light stay on until the bike warmed up then it would shut off. and I know it still works because it had an issue with the fan wiring and the light did come on once when it got hot in traffic. is this normal or is something screwed...
