Eli prices

While I was at my local Kawasaki dealer today, I spotted TWO Eliminators. One is a 1986 ZL600 17k miles, looked nice, for 2000 dollars. The other is a 1985 ZL900, with 7800 miles. Its just like new. Perfect black paint and unscratched chrome. 4,700 dollars. They let me test ride it in their 20 acre parking lot ( It pays to have a son racing for your Kawi dealer). WOW. Now I know why people love the 900. Its FAST! It Wheelies! It costs more than I can afford. I think they are heading up in value, now. But it was really cool to see two of them in one showroom.
 
Pricing

Pricing really seems to vary depending on the time of year and the area that you are in. When I bought my ZL1000 last summer the guy wanted $3000 for it with 10,128 miles on it. I ended up getting it for $2500 and that seemed like a good deal from what I saw on Ebay at that time of year and being 100% Original. Since then I have started to modify it a little. And it sees some abuse at the dragstrip. Too fun though.

If you can get a "NEW PRICE" for a Bike thats 17 Years old Then you know your in Collector Status, $4700 seems a little OUT THERE, Got my 1000 for $2100 in 99, Had a Tad under 9000 Miles, All Stock. So if you Shop Around its Possible to get a Deal, Check Ebay, There are always Bikes on there and from what I've seen the Prices are a Little more REASONABLE, A mint Condition 900 with Low Miles should Bring between $3000 to $3500, The 1000 because it was only made for 1 Year might go for $4000, But this should Be in MINT condition with under 6000 Miles, Just my Opinion, I could be Wrong, Later Rocky.
 
I thought $4700 seemed too much, but the sales guys said they usually get 4000 plus for nice ones. They are so different from anything else that they always sell. One ride sold me! I think Ill wait for a deal through a private party, though.
 
Did you ride the 600? The 600 is a true sleeper, much lighter than the big ZL's and still handle fairly well for a power cruiser, almost flickable.
 
Yeah, I still love my 600, for around town and country roads. But I need a freeway bike and the 900 is perfect for that. That steep gearing on the 600 is too low for extended high speed riding. Besides, its a great excuse to have both.
 
I hear you screaming man. I would love to have both myself. I didnt realize you already had the 600. Good luck in your search.

from what i have see here in south carolina the prices are bit higher here in the south and so is the mileage example i paid 2500 for my 87 with 31000 miles on it the only other 2 eliminators that i saw had between 2000and 27000 on them and both went for almost 4000
 
I checked the other day to see what they got for those bikes. The 600 went for 2000 and the 900 sold for 4450. Funny story about how they got the 900, to begin with. They told me the 900 was traded in on a new Suzuki 1000. All he wanted was tax and lic. for the Eli, which amounted to about 1000 dollars. Then, about a week after taking delivery, he tried to back out of the deal. Apparently, his Suzuki was "too weak down low", which he felt was an engine problem. Service checked the bike and said it was fine. The dealership didn't bite and he left mad. They also noted that he had dumped the new bike, at least once. Guess they don't build them like they used to.

This has been a good read for me since I'm shopping for my first Eliminator.
I looked at an old eliminator site and there was an ad for one in Rochester WA but no longer available.
I'll be scouring cycletrader and ebay as recommended by many of you.

Eliminator Prices

I got my 87 ZL1000 for $1,500.00 and he even let me make payments. I found mine on Ebay that was located in Wichita, KS, which was only 90 mile south of me here in Salina. I prefer buying from an individual, but I planned on restoration & extensive modifications. I wound up replacing the fuel tank which I bought new from Kawasaki at over $600.00. You won't find another bike that pulls like an Eliminator, it's earned it's name.
 
This could be an awesome foundation for the next zl. What you are looking at is a stripped down, next gen 2008 Concours 14. I hope KHI is listening :!:
