A note about Christmas...

ZL600 Carbs

Ever since I took off the carbs to clean them and install carb kits (standard replacement parts, nuthin' fancy, the bike is completely standard), I have been unable to make the bike idle. It starts on choke, but when its warm, it wont idle. I can adjust the throttle stop so it will idle briefly, but the revs will start to climb and i'll be at 4000 and climbing. Adjusting the throttle stop out just makes it stall when I let off the gas. I've stripped the carbs multiple times, cleaned all components, checked the float height, blown out all the internal passages with compressed air, cleaned the air filter and tried every idle jet setting from 1/2 to 3 1/2. Any suggestions?

hummm...

I hate carbs'....I let other people do it for me.. :oops:

but...sounds like your sucking air (that's not an insult)...double check the carb boots...see if there's any cracks in them...you may have a slight leak pulling in too much air, that's making the motor rev up...

you may also have a float stuck...

(gee...the list could be long....did I mention I hate carbs?)

ZL600 Carbs

Might wanna get a set of carb stix & balance the carbs & adjust the idle ai screws after they're balanced. Typically you'll go back & forthe a few times to get em dialed in properly. Depending on the carb kit, you may have to re-adjust the diaphragm needle height also...
 
I have tried all the above in almost infinite combination. I really think this is associated with the pilot system, rather than the needle height or main jets, given that I have no problems above idle. I must emphasize, this bike is stock. No jet kits, no upgrades. Is there a ZL600 owner out there who can tell me the standard setting for the pilot screws ?

I have the Kawasaki Service Manual Supplement for the 600. 2 turns out is stock on the pilot screw. Hope this helps.

I just have to say, I hate this time of the year, do people really think that the little baby Jesus cares if little Johhny gets his PS3 or if little Sally-Ann gets her Bratz dolls???I have to say probably not...This tirade of course is directed at all of the believers in Christ out there, regardless of your religious convictions I am certain that ALL of us feel the pressure this time of year, and as much as I like to help the economy, I say to hell with the big, commercialized Holiday season, Black Sunday can kiss my big, fat, hairy butt...I got off cheap, we (my wife and I) only spent around $1000.00 dollars this year (not bragging...believe me) and I say...ENOUGH...I refuse to exchange gifts next year, let all of the sheep stand in line for all of the 'great deals' that you wouldn't cross the street for in June or July....
Next year I am going on vacation with my loved ones and spending my time and money making memories with those I care about, that's what I will remember in 20 years, not the DVD or necktie I recieved that some obscure relative fretted over in the store for 2 or 3 minutes.

Just a thought...

I have some friends coming over from England so will most likely be doing the same as Rick and just stay plowed all through it. :groupcheers:
 
Before the girlfriend came along I would head to the family farm, which is vacant and hide out there for a few days. Sitting by a campfire in the cold, in the middle of nowhere, thinking about all the poor saps trying to find a place to park at the malls, so they can return the stuff they didn't want and get that last minute sale item.
