I just took my ZL for a drive baby!!! :D :D :D

What an awesome feeling to back on the bike tonight!
I know its 11pm local here but once I cleaned and put the carburettors back on, she started right up! I just had to open the garage door and take her out, 'twas the only decent thing to do.
Most of the panels off, no air box, no sissy bar & registration plate and NO EXHAUST MUFFLERS up through the local village about a mile from my house.

My ears are still ringing!!!

The problems I found with the carbs... 3 pilot jets and one main jet were clogged.

You got a happy man right here!

TIP: install inline filter ASAP! i found my paint chipping around the fuel tap opening and getting by the so-called factory fuel filter.
 
Hi Mark, I had to replace all the 8mm pipes as they were perished and pissing out fuel all over the place on Sunday night. I did the inline fuel filter too today as it happens! gotta do the oil and filter etc as well.
She handled like crap, following all the uneven bumps and cambers in the road, tyres feel like they're shot.
More money.....

Glad to hear it Blag! You may want to change the oil in the forks sometime in the future as well, after years of sitting around it's all but useless.

I'm gonna tackle my airbox tonight, see if I can get the mother f'er back on. My bro is coming over so I'll have to get out the crobar and can of WD40 again and between the two of us, try to squeeze the carbs back in!! You'll probably hear my cursing over in thailand SD!!!lol
Gotta get the P/N for a new set of airbox rubbers, I think I'm goin to need them......

55555555555555 Had me rolling on the floor there Blag. Sorry I can't put all of you up in my house but I can line up rentals for 4000 baht a month 2 bedroom,2 bath plus utilities. All up with water and electric, should be about a $150 -$200 dollars a month all included. Let me know when you guys are coming over. :stir:
 
Bar fine and lady should only cost about 2000- 3000 baht $50 -$75 US) for an all nighter. This does depend on which places you go though as some of the "show girls" can be pricey. 55555555555
 
Got the airbox back on. What a battle. 3 attempts.

The way that worked...

Pointed an electric blow air heater at the stiff rubbers on the air box for about an hour (surprised how pliable the rubbers became after the heat treatment. Sprayed everything with WD40 (rubbers & carbs). slid the air box in place. Slid in the carbs low under the rubbers. lifted the rear of the carb bank and hooked in the rear openings onto the rubbers first, then (using bits of wood and a few rags to protect the top of the engine and the underside of the carbs) Slid a cro bar in to pry up the carb bank and offer up the carbs into the front rubbers. Lots of oil all over the place helped lots. And a second pair of hands too (my bro) made things easier. I used an old tyre iron to tuck in the edges of the rubbers where they were getting caught up...

eazzy peazzy...... not!!! :D

Oh yeah, lots of alcohol kept us from gettin pissed off with it and kept the job fun!

I do mine the opposite way, slide the carbs in with the engine side up then twist them into the engine boots. then with a pry bar move the airbox onto the back of the carb. Helps to have a second pair of hands, that way they can pry the airbox back on while you make sure the boots are sliding on and not pinching.
