Clutch Slave Seals blown?

I just got my bike back from the shop after getting a water pump seal kit installed. I previously was leaking oil down the left side and down the kickstand any time I rode the bike. That leaked has now stopped but I noticed when I got back home from the shop I now have a drip from the clutch slave cover. I took the cover off and noticed what I guess is break fluid inside the hub. I cleaned it real good and put it back on nice and tight... no good.. still dripping..

I called the shop and they said I needed a $30 seal kit and $50 install. I don't know if they are serious or they messed it up when they had to take the cover off durning the water pump seal install...

If anyone has any advice on how to check this it would be much appricated.. Thanks

Sounds like you may need a slave cylinder rebuild kit. Not too hard to do, as long as you have a manual. Might want to check into the clutch master as well. Since you will have the fluid out of the clutch hydraulic system, the Master usually wears B4 the slave. Doesn't sound like the shop had anything to do with it, as once unbolted, the slave is generally way out of the way to do the job they had to do. If you do end up doing yourself, make sure you keep the brake fluid away from the paint (unless you are in the market for a new color  )

Good Luck!

Being that I just pulled my water pump I can confirm that there is no way they should have messed up the slave as the whole slave comes out as a unit and is not dissasembled in any way while pulling the water pump.

Where is the fluid leaking from? The actual slave cover or where the clutch line attaches? If they removed the clutch line, which they shouldn't have, and simply replaced it without replacing the crush washers that could be a source of leaks as well.

Gasket troubles

Geez "G";

I had the same little dripping problem this spring.
It was a quick 20 minute fix.

Just ordered the new cover gasket , around $7.00 canadian, and sliiped it in.
Not too tight though, cuase you'll pinch it. Less is more in this case.
I bled the system too. Probably hadn't been doen in twenty years.

Good luck

It's not the line, a loose line / break was the first thing I checked for. When I took the 3 bolts out and removed the cover I could deffentlly see fluid inside the cover unit and on the side of the push rod itself, where as a line break would just be on the outside of the case. I assume.. lol.

Can anyone suggest where to get the rebuilt kit for a good price. I'd prefer to do it myself. Being as it's most likely just a conicdence, I still don't feel right taking my bike to a place where it comes back with more problems then it left with. We're talking about my baby here....

Thanks for all the advice. This site is the best...

Search on Ebay - just got one 2 weeks ago - $19.00

Good Luck.

Had some quality time in the shop over the last couple of days. Painted the wheels, fitted them lastnight lookin good and fresh. Dont know about the whole lot in silver, may add some black to the spokes n hub later. Fitted a new set of spark plugs, fitted the starter motor and gave the whole cycle a good cleaning.
Went to start it this evening after my brother came around but no such luck. She's trying to start on like one cylinder but doesnt fire up... "thicka phump, thicka phump, thicka phump". Fuel pissing out of the middle two carbs also. Well, she hasnt started in years so I shouldnt have been expecting any more should I? checked all 4 spark plugs and theres a good strong spark from each one.
Consensus in the workshop was to pull the carbs, floats probably stuck etc.
WHAT A ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT TO GET THESE CARBS OUT!!! I have pulled a few carbs from a few bikes in the past, never had such trouble as with the ZL, she just didnt want to give em to me!. I dread to think of the fun that lies ahead trying to get them back in... K&N filters seem to be a good idea right now, explains why I've seen a lot of ZL's with the air box gone!!
Its late now so Im going to strip 'n clean them tomorrow, enuff done for tonight! At least I have them on the bench ready to get going tomorrow evening. The mini saga continues.....

take your time in cleaning the carbs. check every lil hole for blockage by spraying through it. don't forget your PPE! the carb cleaner may squirt you in the eye!
