Ahhhh, i just checked the link. The bidding ended yesterday. A day late and a fender short. Damn.
 
Sorry Joe, But be consoled that it went to a British Eliminator member, so still keeping it in the family.

"...keeping it in the family". I don't think there was ever any doubt about it. I've been looking for a plastic guard off anything with an 18" front wheel and same bolt hole configuration, but without luck (I wanted to use plastic to resolve a small rust issue underneath).

Is there anything else that the ZL900/1K guard will fit (and visa versa)?

There are a lot of eliminator owners who are not members of any Eliminator club. At least it went to someone I know, whether it be from the British, American or German sites. Thats what I meant by keeping it in the family. :lol:

Sorry I've no idea about a substitute. I tend to pride myself on keeping my bikes as stock as possible so I don't play around that much with alternatives.

Although my ZL is not quite there yet, I intend to try and keep it just the way it left the factory. Although I know a lot of others on here will probably disagree with that, what's the point of having the best cruiser in the world ...........and then changing almost every aspect of it???? :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Yes, I agree.
Mine's stock apart from a re-skinned seat cover and the LHS switch block (RHS is next, to keep a matching pair: ’99 GPz900R). Today I even grafted (resoldered the longer ZL loom to every switch in the assembly) the original ZL loom back onto the LHS switch block so I guess you could call it half original. I've only changed these so I can get a press to cancel turn signal; the ZL's sliding switch was hazardous on rough roads. Trying to keep your eyes on the road/traffic and at the same time looking at the switch to see if it is centred/off was a pain. I’m afraid I want to be riding this thing ‘til KHI bring out another one so safety is paramount (for me anyway).

The plastic front guard idea was simply to keep the bike on the road while I get mine cleaned up and re-chromed. I also have a pair of air box covers done in the Candy Lime Green colour to match the rest of the bike. I painted them after the chrome was stripped off to repair some cracks. Before I got the bike registered I scored and fitted a couple of good chrome items so I haven't seen the green ones fitted yet.

I guess you could say the grips aren't stock but that wouldn't be a fare call, having replaced them for heated grips (again so I can keep riding through winter). Apart from that, everything not original is simply a bolt on extra.

Rocket, Don't know exactly what you are looking for but have an idea that you want a plastic fender for the front while you are refinishing the chrome one. Check out www.jcwmotorcycle.com. under the listing of Maier front fenders, item # AGT028788P. Hope this helps. Furchin
 
Rocket, just come to Thailand for a couple of weeks and the fender will be done. You'll have a great time and save a bit on the job. Won't be as much as the trip but I think the fun you will have will make up for the money spent. :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
Oh yea, forgot to say I got one of my front foot pegs + other parts chromed for less than 500 baht ($12.50 US). :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
hi guys,
Is there something I can put onto polished aluminium parts that will stop the corrosion that I suffer from In the good ol' UK?

In the past I've tried clear coat lacquer but it dulls the finish and doesn't stick too well to the polished surface.
