Hhmmm.........Wonder what it does in the 1/4? ......... hahahaha............Wouldn't matter I guess, just pin your competition against the wall.........hahahaha
Wow, there's everything from flashlights, tractors, snowmobiles and even what looked like sugar with the name zl1000. Zl900 turns up some sort of plastic/nylon tubing made by ZL Engineering or something like that.
 
By way of introduction.
Hi having spent a couple of hours looking through this site (when I should have been working) I thought I'd do the formal intro - despite already posting a couple of replies (on the EL250 forum). Both my wife and I ride bikes, I started when I was 18 (many years ago) but my wife passed her test last year. We are both old enough to know better, but you can't beat getting out on the road with the sun shining! - honest, it does sometimes (but not so much this year). Might have been better to buy a jet ski to cope with all the rain we are currently having!

My wife is the eli rider on an EL252 (1998) and I ride Triumph Trident 750 (1991). Living in North London we tend to get out to Hertfordshire, Essex, Cambridge etc and ride purely for fun. We avoid riding in central London as the drivers are bike unfriendly and mostly nutters! (a subjective view I know). At the moment we are limited to the size of bike my wife can ride - there's a two year limit on the hp if you pass your test on a 125cc bike. Luckily, the top limit is 33hp, and the 252 produces exactly that! Once the probation period is over I expect we will be looking for a ZL as this is the style of bike she prefers. Any suggestions as to which one to get would be appreciated.

I WAS IN LONDON LAST WEEK SO I KNOW WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT NUTTERS,WHATS WORSE THAN THE NUTTERS IS THE WAN***S THAT JUST SLAPPED A £50.00 FINE FOR CONJESTION CHARGE EVASION,I MEAN WHAT THE F***S THAT ABOUT ,APPEALED AGAINST IT TELLING THEM I`M FROM THE NORTH EAST AND HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT THEY BASICALLY LAUGHED AND SAID TOUGH. :argue: :angryfire: ANYWAY ON A LIGHTER NOTE WELCOME TO THE FORUM I WOULD SUGGEST A 750 DON`T SEE TO MANY AROUND,OR A 900...GOOD LUCK ANDY :D

As Andy said, a 750 or 900 would be good as they tend to be the rarer models, although I know people that own a 400, 600, 750, 900 and 1000cc ZLs, so they're getting more common in Bristol, hehe.

Do you get to the Ace Cafe much? I might take a trip down there sometime after I've got my new exhausts and had it re-jetted, etc.

a Triumph Trident eh - you don't see many of the older Trumpets about. :D
I always liked the Trident - a real classic. Its a shame Triumph could not develop it faster to take on the Japanese on equal terms.
I agree with the previous advice - maybe a 400 or 600. The step up in power to the 750, 9 or 1000 may be too much - they are also heavy !

Yea the bigger ones are heavy, but if she's vertically challenged then just lower the bike thus lowering the center of gravity
 
Thanks for the welcome to the forum, there's a couple of points that I'd like to pick up on - Totally agree with the view of our congestion charge, the traffics just as bad and now you pay for the privilege of sitting in the gridlock. I work in central London so make the journey (by car) every day.
Don't get to the Ace much - its in the wrong direction! but we will be there for the Brighton run (if we wake up on time) if not, we'll be in Brighton sometime during the day.

With regards to the next bike, I think a 600 would be about right, but it depends on the top end - what MPH do you get out of one - at the moment my wife can reach the ton on the 252 - (admittedly with a following wind) but it will cruise at 90 without much effort. I know its true as I had to belt past her to let her know we were leaving the M25 at the next junction - and that made me go up into instant ban territory.

Is there anything I need to be particularly aware of on the ZL's ?

Oh and I guess the signature will have to change, just put the XS650 on ebay as we need the space in the garage (for a new ZL????)
