Anyone watching zl900 tacho on ebay?

Milage survey

Since I don't seem to be getting any response for the other thread, I thought I would ask how many miles does everyone have on their bikes before a rebuild. I'm trying to get an idea of how long the rings and bearings last.

I have less that 6K on my '85 900 so I'm hoping that I don't need one anytime soon. Plus I don't do wheelies, burnouts or speed shifts with it either. Don't need to tear up a classic or prove anything to the crotch rocket riders.
 
20k on my 86 ZL600 have only put 500 on her so far.

I don't do wheelies either. As for Burnouts... well I do need a new set of tires

Just jetted the carbs. Just picked up a driveshaft on ebay for 5 bucks w the output gears

Fender for 11 bucks and an original manual for 14 bucks
 
Mine has 29,163km, no smoke, no leaks, no oil consumption and purrs like a kitten.

However the old (original) engine has a bent conrod at 50,599km but this was due to the previous owner when he/she attempted to start it up with the No one cylinder full of fuel (hydraulic lock). It's critical with these things that the carb needle and seats are in good condition and more importantly that the fuel tap O ring and diaphragm are functioning correctly.

Now this is what I was looking for in the way of responses. Getting closer to having all my parts for mine soon with a lot of help coming from MrMatt and the great info here.

Bought my '85 900 in '86 with 1,200 kms...

It now has 6300 kms....

Only been throught one crankshaft, and one head. :oops:

Bearings on the crank, and had to replace the valves, keepers ect on the head. While we had it apart, cleaned up the ports. :)

My 1997 ZL600 just turned over 60,000 miles. See the "While I Was Gone..." thread for a photo of the odometer. Still purrs like a kitten, no problems at all.
 
60,000miles on my ZL1000 and its showing low compession on 2 & 3 cylinders but doesn't seem to be affecting power much. I've just put another head on it 'cos I thought it might be the valve seats but still the same so I guess it is probably rings. I'll think about stripping it again when the bad weather arrives. I just want to ride it for now. :lol:

I've had 3 GTR's (concours) Very similar engine and the first one had 74,000 miles and no problems, second one had 45,000 miles and jumped out of 5th gear (engine OK) and the one I've got now only has 30,000 but no problems up to now. 8)

i've got 42000 on my 87 zl1000. no motor problems just starter problems

Thanks for the reports on your bikes and it does help to have this info. I won't be respondeing too much in the future as I just wrecked my small 150 RR doing 80 kph when I hit a whole in the road. It'll be awhile before I get my 900 Eli going. Just got out of the hospital yesterday and not quite up to good shape yet but everything will get there. Have fun guys with the rides, just watch out as you never know.

Couldn't believe how crazy it is, still over a day to go and biddings over US $200 already. Some people have more money than sense. Gotta know when ta hold them, know when ta fold them. (makes me feel like singing) Wish i was selling it. lol.
 
Umm yep .. I'd be guessin' just about everyone on here would be watching that item ...

The tacho as fitted to the ZL900/ZL1000 has a tendency at this age to get the needle bounces ..

Rocket went through it all over on KERA .. apparently there's a "hair-spring" in them that gives out/breaks and is what causes the needle bounce.

A good, working, tacho is worth almost its weight in gold from what I've seen of previous ones on eBay.

All I know is .. mine works!! hehehe

(I won't dare openly admit what I paid for it off eBay either) lalalalalala :D
 
:scratch: Well it sold for $276, just a bit over the $75 i was willing to pay. Best way to keep prices down is stop bidding if it goes out of a pre set range, there's sure to be another come along, and the bike will still run with certain parts missing, just won't look as pretty. :)
