Eliminator Bolt on Accessories
OK, I haven’t seen a post on this topic yet so here goes. Would anyone/everyone like to list any or all of the accessories (OEM or aftermarket) they have fitted to their Eliminator (not fussed about engine of frame mods, just bolt on gear that makes these bikes a little more pleasant). Perhaps with reference to some or all of the following;
a. In your opinion, how well it worked,
b. On which model Eli was it fitted to,
c. The item manufacturer and or URL,
d. Part or model number of the item,
e. Tips for installing, and/or
f. Pics to view item fitted.
I’ll make a start start with mine, (all currently on my ZL1000):
1. Paint Candy Lime Green (PPG Deltron - KAW 8.n)
Same colour as '01 ZX900-E2, '03/'04 ZRX1200 and '04 VN1600 Meanstreak. It may not be an original ZL colour but at least it’s a Kawasaki colour and it looks fantastic with the gold metallic highlighted in bright sunlight.
2. Nightvision ‘Hot Spots’ Long Range Driving Lights (100W 4”),

They were given to me by a mate ‘cause he didn’t like seeing the rusted backshells on his rusty 4x4. I blasted them, my brother painted them, when he did the rest of the bike, and I replaced the plastic covers. They’re powered via a relay (looselylocated in the headlight backshell) supplied through a 20amp fuse off the battery and controlled via the high beam power at the back of the headlight. These are fantastic and are better than anything I’ve had on any car, they have a wide beam and long throw. I’ve mounted them on alluminium brackets I made and fitted to the lower triple clamps, they are rock solid, no vibrations or light shudder on the road. Now I can see all the Spring Loaded Bush Rats before I can feel them.
3. Motorcycle Alarm System (LFF Security Equipment Co., Ltd - P/No LM210A),

I bought this from eBay (from “west_coast_enterprise” however they’re not listing any now, try #7994480286, it appears to be similar). I found it easy to install and all functions actually work. These are: Shock Sensitive Alarm, Immobilization, L.E.D. arm/disarm indicator Display Light (This alone is a deterrent and is fitted to the alloy handlebar clamp), 125 db's Siren, Remote Arm/Disarm Feature, Remote Engine Starting (spliced into the ignition loom to the coils), Panic Button, Bike-Locating Ability, Anti-hijacking Feature, Code Learning Technology (More than one million code combinations). The best thing I like is that if you accidentally bump it, and the keys are in the house, it only chirps five times (2nd bump and it’s continuous). Oh, and the key fobs are waterproof.
4. Givi E33N TopBox (w/stoplight),

33 liters of storage originally fitted to my ZZR250 and now the Givi base plate is bolted to the alloy plate welded to my pillion cross bar on the ZL. The brake light is spliced into the loom under the seat. I gotta say it’s rugged and most definitely waterproof (6.5hrs in bucketing rain, 0.5hr of that was hail). The box is extremely easy to fit and remove (the brake light has spring loaded contacts at the base) and the latch hole is also a comfortable carry handle. Easily fits a helmet plus extras.
5. Rivet HotGrips (Off/High/Low),

These are a God send. At the moment our mornings are anywhere from -4 to 6 deg C (24 – 42 deg F). I didn’t believe these would be of much use because I was already wearing winter gloves with thinsulate liners and rubber gloves between them and my hands would be icy after 10klms. So I figured if I took out the rubber glove (so I could at least feel the heat from the grips) the cold wind would freeze the back of my hands. Not so. The (high) heat penetrates my fingers and I really don’t notice the cold on my hands at all. These are powered off my headlight power supply at the junction box (only draws about 30W, through a fuse) and the switch controls the heat, series (‘Low’) or parallel (‘High’), there are no resistors in the system. Tip, use 24hr araldite (epoxy). I tried two types of grip glue and 5min epoxy and they all failed. As soon as the grips warmed up the plastic inner tubes of the grips let go of the glue. Also, the manufacturer describes my grips as “New Design with extra comfort contoured grips and thermal regulator to control temperature”. Correction they are not contoured, they are textured; the sides are parallel with no so called “comfort” shape at all (although I do find them comfy none the less). Also there is no regulator, it is a switch (even better, less parts to fail).
6. Sheepskin Seat Cover,
From a guy who makes custom car seat covers at the markets. It has 25mm (1”) dense black wool and it is soooo comfy on long trips. It’s made so it just slips over the seat like a sock (elastic under-straps). Sorry I don’t have picks but if you guys are interested I can send you some. If anyones interested, the guy who made them now has a template for a ZL1000 and I could enquire about cost plus P & H.
7. Digital Clock,
I can’t see the bloody watch under the winter gear (jacket/gloves etc). I fitted this on the bars so I could see how late I was for work before I decide to turn around and go back to work/home. $2.00 job from a seconds shop (hasn’t been pinched yet…). I’d like to get a 12V item with a back light so I can read it at night and the light won’t send the battery flat, any ideas?
8. Tear Drop Mirrors,
$5.00 each from the wreckers cause the originals were missing. I knew the correct items are round but I chose these because the tear drop shape was in keeping with the style of the tank, and being wider is always a bonus.

I’m keen to see what you have all done to your velocipedes, maybe I can adopt a few more luxuries…
