Radiator fan, and the Temperature Warning Light !

Regarding the radiator cooling fan, and the temperature warning light,

Has anyone else ever seen this temperature warning light come on, and if so, is this simply related to the cooling fan coming on for additional cooling, apparently this only occurs when I am stopped with the engine still running. I have only ever seen this light come on twice, and only for a short time, mostly after very aggressive runs on very hot days, and then coming to a fairly abrupt stop and idling for short length of time, say at a traffic light. The other thing is when turning off the engine and ignition, the fan always, without fail, cycles on for about 30 seconds, maybe a little longer, and with the engine still off, turn on the ignition and the cooling fan comes back on for about an additional minute or so longer.

I`ve noticed while doing the 1200 conversion that there are 2 sensors
for the fan:one on the rad.and one on the thermo housing
opposite the idiot light sensor.
They look like they`re a neg.trigger.
The ZRX has one on the rad.and it`s a pos.trigger.

It looks to me like the fan and idiot light are not connected in any
way.
It may be that you have an overly sensitive sensor or it could be
defective.
I would suggest adding a temp gauge.
You just have to change the sensor and add a couple of wires.
An aftermarket auto gauge will work and they`re not expensive.
 
I haven't had my ZL900 very long but I haven't noticed the fan running when riding. If I get it warm on a ride the fan runs for about 30 seconds after shutting the bike off and I've not seen time "idiot" light come on.

BUT.. I've not rode this bike long and hard & have never been at a stoplight with it.
