Possible fork swaps?

I have been wondering, if there are any possible triple tree/fork swaps possible with anything other than a Mean Streak?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Mean Streak front end... But, finding one at a reasonable price is challenging. On the other hand, finding a front end off a ZX9 or something is relatively easy.

I'd just like to upgrade the suspension and brakes, since I need to replace the seals in my stock forks anyway...

Input is appreciated!

I have a ZX7 USD front end for sale cheap.
Ya need to have the stem swapped for it to fit.

Cool.. I was hoping something like a ZX7 front end would fit... Could you tell me more about the swap, or point me towards a thread with the details?

Having the stem changed isnt a problem... Everything else is straight forward though? (I assume I use the ZX7 front wheel and brakes?)

How much do you want for your front end, and whats all included with it, just the forks?

Thanks again!

Never done the swap but it should be the same as
any other, pop the stems and swap em,you may need
a sleeve made as the ZX has a larger diameter stem.
triples,forks,clipons,fender,axle w/spdo drive,ZRX rim
w/very small ding(easy fix) never felt it while riding,
$375.
I may have rotors and calis for some extra $.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to hold off on the fork swap till Winter... Pretty broke right now after getting this bike running and stuff..
Definately going to try to find a ZX7 or mean streak front end come fall/winter though. If you still have yours then, theres a good chance I'll take it off your hands.

Thanks again!

I've got a ZRX front end on mine. It bolted right on (same bearings), though the tank will limit turning radius (still manageable). The handling is much better balanced and you can use your ZL mastercylinder for 1/2 finger braking. I imagine stoppies are possible with stock rear suspension and sticky front tire (I have a rather lockable Avon sport-touring number on mine). The front is a bit lower, but cornering clearance isn't compromised due to the wider tire pushing the front "up" more in corners (from middle of tire).

I like it cause it's cartridge style (better damping with adjustability) but still right-side-up and black so it still looks '80s. Can't percieve any flex from the fork, but maybe from the frame now. Still much better - don't know how I managed without it!

If it`s a 9 try moving the tank back,it looks like
I`ll need to do it w/the M/S frontend.

Yep. Any forks that have less trail, are thicker, or are mounted wider will be likely to hit that tank. 'Course that means most forks that will improve handling....

Oh, and are the ZX-9 forks the same as the Mean Streak's (except for adjustability and tuning)? In that case it seems like the thing to do is get the MS's triple trees and ZX forks. Is that your plan eventually? That's what I was going to do, but I found a ZRX fork that had been tuned by Race Tech and figured I'd be $ ahead with that. It really is much better than stock ZRX: less high speed damping, more low speed damping, and stiffer springs.

Forgot to mention that the old Eli head shake is worse than before, but I think it's just an imbalanced tire. It never threatens to throw me, and holding the bars stops it, but the tendancy is there at any speed over 45 or so. Only annoying, not scary.

Does anyone know if the old ZX600-R (current ZZR600) forks are the same as the ZRX's (43mm upper)? I just took a look at one and couldn't help noting the similarity: looks like the wheel, brakes (6 piston Tokico), and forks are the same; but I'm wondering about the triple trees and steering stem?
Further research indicates that late '90's ZX9 forks are the same as the 600s, so I'm thinking there's more out there than might have been thought.

I've got the old cam chain and rear and top guides out and the new chain in place but can't seem to get the chain to sit flush on the cam gears. There are marks on both the cam shafts showing EX and IN with lines on them. I've got the right cam shafts for intake and exhaust in place so it isn't that.

Which lines are supposed to line up with the top of the head? Is it the EX is supposed to line up on the exhaust side and the IN supposed to line up on the intake side or what?

I am taking picks all along on this job so will post them later. The rear guide was a little bother to get out (as ZL Mark said) as it was mushroomed from the old tensioner. In fact the rear guide looked as if it had dug into the rear tensioner.

Anybody got a clue on this? I'm not rushing this as I don't want to do this again. 555555

Thanks

print out the page of the manual that shows this. When i did mine it ended up looking just like that.
