Carb settings

Can any of you good people tell me how many turns out of the idle mixture screw are correct for my ZL400?

It's an 86 model, stock exhausts but with cone filters instead of the standard airbox and the carbs have been re-jetted (went up 10) to accommodate the new filters.

Why mains?

Try 1.5 turns out. Im not sure what you ment by up 10 on mains with just a filter change and stock exhaust you should not have to change mains. just backing the pilot out a little should be enough for just a filter change if at all. Depending on the year moving the clip or shimming the needle works great for filter and pipe changes on most bikes. I have removed several jet kits and done the above.Gas mileage drops alot when you change mains.

Don't forget we use metric petrol (gas) in the UK

I went down this path two years ago and by time I priced out new diaphrams and needles, seats and jets I was going to be about $800 into rebuilding the carbs. So I just found a used set off of an '04 concours that fit right up to my 900 except for the throttle bracket cable for less than $300.

Yeah i would definatley take a used one but i only need one. I have time so i will keep looking
