A Strange Problem...

My '97 ZL600 has always had a tendency to burn up taillight bulbs. I actually carry a spare bulb in my tankbag just in case. If I use a heavy-duty bulb, it will last much longer.

Anybody else have this little glitch?

Nope but spend 14 bucks and get LED's they last a lot longer they are just as bright.

Replaced mine in my 6 and ain't changed it yet

i actually had the same problem with my vulcan. mine was a grounding problem in the lamp socket. might not be the fix in your case but worth looking at. after all of my problems i switched all my bikes to led's worth every bit of money i spent.

LED's

Hey tech, check in e-bay under kawasaki eliminator, buy it now, page 2. They have spinning led brake lights for $11.95 I think. I believe they are supposed to replace 1157 bulbs. Furchin

Bought them from a local Kaw shop. They run about 14 bucks they replace all standard bike bulbs.....

LED bulbs in your house can last 35 years

When cold starting only the # 1 & 4 carbs seem to work, if put my hand on the back of the carb it spits fuel at me and then starts feeding the engine. I have to do this with # 2 & 3 every time I cold start it, afterwards it does fine. Does anyone know what this means.

Choke not working? By putting your hand over the end your richening the mixture.

Do you have a filter fitted, can't understand how you put your hand over the end if you do?

Just putting back together so yes, no filters or air box installed at present. So I don't need to worry about carbs until all hooked up including pods. Do the carbs need resticted air flow to work properly for startup?

Your carbs need to be jetted for the type of filters your using. Do not even think about running stock jets with pods. You'll be running super lean, symptoms will be lean misfire especially when cold, and overheating and detonation when warm. Fast way to ruin a motor.

Let's talk about your plans for your setup. Pods, timing advancer plate, exhaust and jets. We'll get ya making some power :nike: :cya:

I know I need to re-jet and move the clips on the sliders, although I thought I would have to go lean, it seems to be a running little fat right now. I am also thinking of replacing the muffler with an x-pipe and keep the stock cans. I love the way the stock exhaust looks but would like more sound. What is your thinking on the x-pipe. I don't know about a timing plate. Right now I want to get it running so I can ride it enough to know if it will warrent spending more money on. I need tires too, but still want to find out if she is worthy. I would still like some input on the setup for future preperation. I have only ridden her about a hundred yards or so (without a seat) since I got it, so I would like toget back together and put a couple of ten mile trips on it before I start feeding lots of money at her.

x-pipe? someone make one of these that fits? Talking to Rick the other day,, about this.... gotta run to work

MachIV did his 1200 with an Xpipe and he seemed happy with it, cuts out the collector box.

I don't know why you guys want this bike to go faster, put the new battery in mine last night and after a little priming it fired right up after sitting all winter with stabilizer and fogging in the fuel, carbs and motor. Once she warmed up she ran pretty well, still need to check the valves, change the oil, sync the carbs and put an in-line fuel filter on her. The alternater must be working since the new batter had 12.4 volts when I installed it and 12.7 after running her awhile. Need to track down a couple of parts to have her looking good as new. Of course, its the same parts everybody here is looking for, chrome air cover and brake lever.

Not with stock mufflers though.

Back to what i was saying when i was so rudely interupted by having to go to work,,SHEEESH!. Rick, Bull and I was talking about the zl600 mufflers. if you look at the inlet on those they look like they will shoot right straight into the zl900/zl1000 head pipes with maybe a little extension or elbow eliminating(<<I like that word) the collector box.

I'm not looking to make the bike faster, I just want to get rid of the airbox because it is a pain in the ass and I cant get it back on. I'm hoping someone will point me in the right direction for jet size and where to put the needle clips. As far as an x-pipe, I havent really raised the bike up high enough to see what kind of job it will be to fabricate one. I have a pipe bender and all the equipment I will need, the only problem I may run in to is that the smallest pipe I can bend is 1 1/2. If it is only a collector box then I may not even worry about it, I thought it was another muffler.

See if you can make one up. I'm sure if you can and then easily duplicate them. Guys here will eat em up.

Call Factory Pro to get the jet sizes for your setup. There is a link to their site in the weblinks section in the main menu. Tell Marc at FactoryPro that Mark from zl-oa.com sent ya.

Took Eli for a ride today (about fricking time). Turns out I had an intermittent bad coil for 2&3, this was probably the culprit the whole time. I just couldn't figure out why sometimes she would start right up and sometimes not. The first time I got her to run and drove around the block she ran flawlessly (no filters or box). Now I have everything back together with pods and she stumbles first gear only right out of the hole. It feels like she loses spark or something, even the tach goes dead for just a split second and the momentum from the bike starts back up and then runs thru the gears just fine.

Try one at a time until you find it starting with sidestand switch bypass. then if you have original plug caps and wires check the tech section. Mine was doing that exact thing until i replaced the plug caps and wires.
