Tank logo help

I have my 86 ZL900 thats been painted. The problem is I can't get the stock tank logo from the dealer. Can someone with a red ZL900 and someone with the black ZL900 measure the stock tank Kawasaki logos off of their bikes then I can go to the local vinyl shop and have them print them up for me.

Thanks alot again, Jimi V.

To make a long story short can someone please measure their kawasaki logo off of their tank and post it for me?

jimiv, whereare you located in peoria? i was born in peoria and livedin the area all my first 32 years. moved to florida 3 1/2 years ago. and who did you buy the bike from? just curious as my brother-in-law sold his a couple of years back [no one to ride with] his was an 86 with alot of mods. anyway he had decals made for his and i'll call and see if he remembers the size etc. give me a couple of days as im heading to tennesee for the weekend to see the nationals.

jimiv,

I think I have the last set of OEM decals that Kawasaki Heavy industries had in their national warehouse. Somehow, a few moons back, I was able to make a call to check availability, and ordered them. I have a set for the Red AND Black '85 & '86 ZL900. I am NOT selling them, but I would be more than happy to forward you the pics I have saved on my PC from previous inqueries and posts. Forward or PM me your e-mail address, and I would be more than happy to send them to you, along with the measurements.

Thanks,

fastfatcow, I live in Bartonville next to peoria, I got this bike in the Quad Cities this summer for $2100.00. I had a red 85 ZL900 and sold it to Grayboy Kawasaki for $1800.00 in 1991 and it was very cherry, this many years later I got another one.

Hey Jim, If you need a Logo to give the Printer Go to www.eliminator.org Under Brocures go to the 900, 5 Pages its on the Last one, You can Print it and once You get the Right size have them Blow it up, The Logo NOT the Bike 8O :D :D , Later Rocky

NICE one Joe, Always Nice to have People To Help out Each Other on this Site, Now WHAT ABOUT THE PICS 8O , Later Rocky

jimiv, im am very familiar with grayboy thats where my brother in law bought his zl9 5 yrs ago. also long time employee there bob heatherington is a good friend of mine of several years now. let me know/us know if youve gotten what you need for the decals as i can still try my brother in law for info.

Thanks for all the help I got the logos printed already. They look good on the black bike. They are a solid mirror finish, I'll post some pics after I figure out how to.

As I am having problems with my carbs at the moment I thought that I would pose a question to do with carb size.
Please correct me if I am wrong, The ZL750 runs on 32mm Kehin carbs, what would happen if a set of 34mm Kehin carbs were fitted to the same bike?. Would the bike overfuel and flood or would it run ok?

Just curious and I know someone has the answer or has already done it.

With the larger diameter throttle bodies, your cylinders might not have the volume to pull enough air through to create the needed vacuum. You would probably have better results if you had a less restrictive exhaust, that would allow the engine to move air more effeciently but the carbs would still have to be jetted properly. If you have a set of 34's and are willing to spemnd some time, give them a try and let us know how it goes.

I'm with gosupes, you'll have to set the jets.

WRT the carb bore sizes there will always be sufficient vacuum because the throttle butterfly controls this right up to full throttle. The bore size simply influences the velocity of the airflow across the main jet at full throttle, larger bore gives reduced speed and a smaller bore increases speed. In positions other than full throttle the speed of the airflow is governed by the vacuum diaphragm and slide, hence the term Constant Velocity (CV Carbs). There is a compromise here where the manufacturers must decide if, at full throttle, they want a good top end where a larger bore can provide more air (volume) or good bottom end torque where a smaller bore will provide greater airflow velocity (not volume) across the main jet at lower rpm.

Make sense?

Excellent advice thanks Rocket, If I have time I will try to have a go at fitting the 34mm carbs that I have lurking in the garage and if it works as Gosupes asked I will let you know. The 34mm are of a GPz 900R so at least it is still a Kawasaki.
