Is that a cat running underneath the frame where the exhausts t-together? If so can I get rid of it completely? I wanna run just straight pipes. Are there any adverse effects of doing this?

If I buy the Dand D 4 to 1, will that remove all the stuff in the current set up?

I am leaning toward a new exhaust. A complete exhaust. Is the D and D a complete exhaust? If so. What can I get for the stock ones? I will never return the bike to stock form once I get the aftermarket parts.

Help, I need more ooommmph!!

Thanks
Allen

Mo powaa

The box your refering to is termed a
"Power Box" in the service repair manuals.

The engine is tuned with this piece of hardware in your exhaust system with the idea of equalization of back pressures between the cylinders.

It can be removed but would likely adversely effect your engines performance in a negative way, unless you rejet and appropriately tune your carburators.

If your looking for more power by way of exhaust, you'll probably want to change you whole exhaust system, but that's difficult too, as the OEM system is a unique one.

Trying to work headers around the front part of the engine cradle is more than most aftermarket systems can accomidate.

Thats my two cents

Hey Allen, Like Bob said You cant Just Put on a New Exhaust and GO, D&D is the Only Co that Makes a Complete System, Although I dont think the 4 into 1 Does it for the Eli's Styling[ Just my 2 Pennies before I get Bitched at  ]Other options are Holeshot Slipons This also does Away with the Powerchamber, You will have to use your Stocker Downtubes, And Depending how Deep your Wallet is Custom Pipes, Whatever you do you Will have To Rejet the Carbs, Stage 1 2 or 3, 1and 2 Keep the Stock Airbox while Stage 3 Gets "The Pain in the Ass" Outathere, Finaly its up to you and the Look you Want, Later Rocky

ZRX

You know Rock,

A nice ZRX power plant conversion, might be money better spent.

PS
...did you get that fourth tank you mentioned "IV"?

I have a zl900 project going right now and need to know what carbs will fit the stock inlet boots? What carbs will plug and play? Is there a alternative, like GPZ900 carbs? What inlet boots would I need then. I can not measure the inlet items because my bike is in Nor Cal and I am in England, so I am ordering all my parts and getting it ready for a builder to put togetehr. I ws looking at FCR's from Sudco but I can not get the dimensions done and i do not want to order soem expensive stuff that does not fit. The bike will have full D+D, 980 or 972cc slugs, Kent cams fast street cams, and whatever carb combo I come up with. Thanks in advance for any help.

Lee,
Rick_in_WA just had his carbs done, send him a PM and ask what he found out, the guy that did his carbs is supposed to have alot of knowledge of the ZL's and interchangeability....Good luck!
moab...

If you put GPZ900R 34mm carbs you need to change all boots from ZL1000, originals wont fit

And on those ZL1000 boots you can put ZX11 36mm carbs too.

I have both of these carbs on my garage shelf :dancingfool:

I just put a set of carbs from an '04 Concours on my 900 bike, only part I had to change out was the throttle cable bracket, which was a pain because its right in the middle of the carbs, so I had to remove two of the carbs off the bracket to get to it.

And you used the zl900 carb holders?

The concours are 34mm right?

The 85 gpz9 carbs do in fact fit on the 85zl.... I know this for a fact as I had both set in my hands not long ago...... the only true difference we could deterime was the INLET side one being 34 others being 32... THE STOCK JETTING WAS THE EXACT SAME ON BOTH SETS! main.as well as idle jetting, floats, everything the same..... I put the gpx carbs on my bike they fit the boots fine.. I did not run them or even attempt to run them

Side note both of these carbs gpz and zl came off cali equiped machines.

Supplement manuals tells

GPZ900R
main Jet 132/135/138
main airjet 100
pilot jet 35
pilot airjet 160
starter jet 42/38

ZL900
125
130
35
125
40/45

ZL1000
130/135/128/132
100
35/32
80
50

and it is extremely difficult to use those ZL900 boots on 34mm carbs for sure :banghead:
