Chrome brake and clutch levers?

ZL1K Centre Stand

Anyone know how to best modify a ZL1000 to fit a centre stand and what type/model can be most easily adapted to suit?

If all the budding engineers out there have tried and given up in frustration, what other options do I (and the rest of us) have when we wish to remove a wheel (front or rear) or a front end? I noticed a couple of lugs hanging below the pegs, are these for a genuine workshop stand and if so where do I get one?

I am (and I suspect many other KERA members) looking forward to as many responses as possible (nothing like choice)…

Center stand

Working on that myself and haven't figured out the center of gravity yet but will be doing more this weekend. Gotta get the driveshaft out to start the frame cleanup and paint.
 
I've used car stands at lugs under the footpegs to pull the front end off. If I recall correctly, before anything was removed, it sat lightly on the front wheel like most other bikes on a centre stand.
 
motorcycle jack

I use a hydaulic motorcycle/atv jack on my ZL600 and also on my ZL1000 for lifting purposes. It has worked wonderfully to date for all my lifting. I was a little bit leery at first in purchasing this lift because I wasn't sure of the stability. I then had a friend on mine mount a rear tire on my bike. He used one of these stands and never even used the tie down straps for securing the bike. He had to wrench on the rear axle bolts fairly hard to remove and remount the wheel and the bike sat there everly so securly. I was sold. Went to Sears and bought mine right away. There are other companies that sell these so shop around for price. I paid around $79.00 on sale. Hope this helps all who want to lift their bike. Furchin
 
"cage" stand

I rigged up a "cage" stand using two 4"x4"x8' posts on end, a 2" galvanized pipe across through holes about 6' up the posts, an heavy-duty tie-downs with the whole contraption screwed to the wall on one side with angle iron. Removed the tank, rolled the front up on blocks, and tied it up to the pipe by the frame. Worked pretty good. I can send you more detailed instructions by E-mail if you want. The whole thing only cost about $30, it worked pretty well, and it can be broken down fairly easily for storage, and you can pull the whole front end off the bike. My buddy and I have used it for several bike projects including my eli 900 and his GSXR 750.
 
I'm having trouble getting the right levers for my bike. My local stealership has got in 2 different pairs of levers for me over the last couple of weeks but both sets he got for me wouldnt fit. Can anyone point me in the direction of someplace that has the exact replacement, in chrome...?

Glad you asked this one, I need em for mine too! I was considering the "Vulcan" style that are on e-bay all the time but never got around to ordering them.

I spotted that alright but ZL fancy paint is over in florida and its 1 clutch lever wiv a lil road rash... Was hopin to find a supplier that can offer em new, on this side of the pond hopefully? Theres gorra be someone that still has em new...? :scratch:

I did a search on the web using the part numbers for the ZL900,

Brake 46092-1121

.... I did get a hit but on a norwegian website (couldn't understand the writing tho)

they had one listed, with part number 46092-1121 for a ZL1000A1-A2 (87-88), hendel, brems 46092-1121. Priced at 205kroner, about €20. No pictures though or more detailed info so I was very unsure to proceed to checkout. will write them an email to ask some more questions....

Hi,

I bought a set of standard chrome clutch and brake levers direct from Kawasaki Australia, just recently (a month ago) so they are still available, they hard to find from aftermarket suppliers/retailers though.

If you want adjustable levers, either in chrome or anodised black, use the ones from a 2000 model Kawasaki GTR1000 (ZG1000-A15 - Concours), they work perfectly, but because of the adjuster wheel, they are slightly longer in length from the standard ZL1000 levers, as the GTR1000 has a approx. 1 inch long, bar weight on the end of the handlebars and the GTR1000 standard levers reach out to the tip of them, but 1 inch bar weights are easy to find in most bike shops.
