I have a zl 1000 that I have completely re worked to an awesome condition. I have seen pics of a clear clutch cover modification that I would like to do. does any one out there have one for sale, any info on this mod, or know some one who can do it for me.

Photos Pleeeeeease!!!

Always nice to see another ZL reworked!!!

I'd never say another person's custom job "sucked" - I just say I would've done it differently, but that's just me.

Kinda like this:
KawasakiZL1000photochop.jpg

- A more rounded back to the seat, so it flows into the rear fender
- A rounded rear fender
- If already building a custom exhaust, build a rounded shield to fit in with the stock passenger footpeg mount
- A little custom work on the front fender

I really dig that clutch cover... guess it's time to start perusing eBay and the swap meets for one... Concours & 80's ZX-10 are the same right?

finding the clutch cover isnt the problem, finding someone who can do the mod is ! let me know if you can find a guy for this job !!!!

I dont think that is a custom seat, I believe it is a generic bike bandit cover
the rounded to the fender look would be cool, I believe they call that the "gunfighter" design.

I dunno, looking at sharkystuff, it doesn't look like it involves much.
I've got a machinist friend who can cut the hole, then it's just your time and patience to fit the lexan, drill the 16 holes & then seal it up so it doesn't leak.

If I find a cover for cheap, I'd love to take a crack at this mod!
:)

usually you can find one on ebay at a reasonable price. If you take on this mod please post pictures of the work in progress and provide all info on the project !!!!

I guess Im just lazy, I want to take and a picture to someone else and just say "I want this part to look like this picture, call me when its done"

Looks like Sharky provided details and pics of this mod already.

http://www.sharkystuff.com/zl1000/misc.htm

Start from the bottom of that webpage and work your way to the most current info.

- Cut hole
- Cut Lexan
- Make template/Mark holes
- Drill holes
- Cut/Make gasket
- Affix Lexan

If you find a guy who can't do this mod with those instructions, I'd keep looking for another guy ;)

yeah that will work for me !!! Ive asked a couple of guys at mc shops to do it they seem to think that it will be very difficult and very expensive. doesnt look that bad to me ..

i've been going back & forth on this issue in my head for days now, & i think the clear clutch cover is neat, for a showbike, & i look forward to seeing someone doing it to their bike, but not for me, & the look i'm trying to achieve for ELEANOR ! i do like the belly pan, on the bike in the photo !!!
good luck to you guys who are going to try the clear clutch cover ! look forward to seeing the end results ! CHRIS :cool10:

Ive got the chrome crash bars, so a belly pan wont work on my bike, but if it did Id want one alot like that one.

Riiiight, that was more of a pain than I thought it would be........

the nuts look nice Jarney,
but the lexan can be better.
what thickness have you got now?
2 millimeter?

if you take 4 or 5 mm. it wont bend that much.

be sure it doesnt fit in the cover too tight.

i think its very brave of you to make this, respect!
please, don't hate me for this advise.

greetings from sunny Holland.

Edd

Thanks Edd, wasn't sure how thick of lexan to use. I used a piece that's almost 1/8 inch thick, or about 3 mm I think. I was trying to keep it flush with the rest of the cover. Any thicker and it's going to stick out a little. I would like to see some closer pics of one that has been done. I may just need to drill out the holes a little bigger to take out any bind it might be in. Thanks for the advise. Later.

hey jarney,

tell how you did it!

I think it looks great, I purchased one for my vmax, doesnt leak a drop. I havnt been brave enough to modify my zl cover myself, the one on the vmax has allen bolts like yours but they have the rounded dome shaped top instead of the ones you have, looks a little better ..IMHO

get an led in there and you'll have the coolest clutch in the group.
