Question about a concours engine. Will it fit?

Hi everybody

I'm back on the internet after moving up to the wilds of North Scotland. Its taken nearly 3 months to get phone lines and internet connection. The countryside is fantastic but services are difficult to get hold of.

Since I'm having problems with my engine I have decided to strip and refurbish the internals. While I'm doing this I have spotted a GTR (concours) with a good engine.
My question is this.
Will the GTR engine fit straight into the ZL1000. I'm aware of the power differences but I don't mind that as it is only a temporary measure.

I don't envisage a problem but you may wish to get some advice from someone who has done it before.

I've just gone through a search exercise looking for a replacement oil pan for my spare ZL1000 motor (accident damage left a huge hole in the side). The ZL900/1000 sumps are unique due to the additional clearances required for the exhaust balance pipe which crosses under the front of the sump. Of course if your exhaust is not stock then you may not have an issue in this regard.

A new sump cost me AUD197.00 from my dealer or my local wrecker has one for AUD100.00. Also I'm told there's currently one on eBay but it's no good to me 'cause my dealer can't cancel my order for the new one.

Go with a ZRX motor,it has more heuvos. :lol:
Measure all the motor mount points on both and you should
be able to tell.

Thanks for the replies, I've already got a concours and now the holidays are over I will be attempting the change-over. I'll let you know how it goes.
At first glance both engines look to be identical but I'm sure it cant be that easy!!! 8O

On my way home from work tonight, I was stopped at a set of lights, waiting for the green. A police car pulls up next to me and I catch out of the corner of my eye, the driver is looking at me... looking at the bike... looking at me again. He starts talking on his radio. I'm thinking... oh ****, I'm in trouble? I'm getting pretty worried at this time as I had not road taxed my bike yet and I was sitting there with this guy checking me over.
Lights went green, off i went, safest driver in the fking world, using my mirrors, indicators etc.. the works! Drove a couple of miles with them hanging back behind me a couple of hundred yards... Got to the next village.... red light..no choice but to stop. Crap, I'm watching him in my mirrors... I see the passenger get out of the cop car and walk towards me.... :pale:
"Excuse me sir"..... :pale: OH SH*T, here we go I'm thinking ..no road tax, bald rear tyre, who knows what else ........ this is gonna cost
......"is that a 900 or a 750!"

Sonofabitch nearly gave me a heart attack but he is just a normal guy asking normal guy questions!! Turns out he had one back in the 90's and has had a hankering for one lately, he had seen mine drive thru town last week and he was looking to talk to me if he saw me again. His current ride a zzr600. Askin if i know of any ZL's for sale and if I come across any in the future then give the police station in town a call!
Told me if i had any "problems" with tickets to give him a call... nice :D

Tell him to keep an eye on Ebay - they do crop up every now and again. Did he say if he was bothered about capacity ?

I'll admit, twas kinda funny watchin the cagers slow down to see what was goin on instead to see the garda laughin and admirin my ZL...

I hate rubber neckin at the best of times but this made me laugh...
